Well, yesterday at work was rather interesting. Even though I did think I was going to be fired for a few minutes.
You see, ever since I moved into this office of mine, there has been an AM/FM radio in here. The only thing is, the radio sucks. It picked up zero AM stations and one or maybe two FM stations. Since I like to listed to Mancow in the morning and Rush in the afternoon, as well as various stations through the day, I went to Wal*Mart to get a cheap radio to bring into work.
Picked up a cheap < $10.00 radio last Friday and brought it into the office Monday morning. – Keep in mind, that it is a Government office. Well, at the time I bought it, and even when I brought it into the office I didn’t think about it having a tape deck. Or even having a record button. Hell, I was just happy to have a radio.
Well…. someone reported to security that I had brought in a recording device. And that’s when the fun started.
They first walked in (while the radio was on) and asked if so-and-so was here. It wasn’t a name I had ever heard, and I told them that. The guards then used my phone to call their boss and ended up thinking they had been sent to the wrong building. – BTW, when they used the phone, I turned down the radio for them.
Well, since they thought they were in the wrong building they left. As I was turning the volume back up on the radio they came back and asked if I had any type of recording device. Guess what, I did. :/
After that they took the radio and me in their nice security SUV down to the PSS (Supervisor) office where I got to speak with several people about the incident. I thought I was going to lose my job at this point. Thankfully after only being there for a few minutes the jokes started, and I was a bit relieved.
Several not so interrogating questions later, I was given the radio back, told to take it to my vehicle and never bring it back. Needless to say, I won’t be doing that again. However the people down there were pretty cool.
Though there were lots of jokes about it yesterday, it was a very serious event. And it’s not something I would like to go through again.
To my boss, his boss, the security people, and the rest of the personnel out there, I’d like to apologize for this happening. It shouldn’t have happened in the first place.
