Since a lot of the OCC members are fans (and users) of the popular XFire gaming instant messenger, I thought I’d post this. C|Net News.com is reporting that Yahoo! has filed a lawsuit against XFire. Looks like they are claiming that XFire is infringing on one of Yahoo!’s patents.
Hmm.. did anyone else know that Yahoo! had a similar service known as GameProwler? – Though, since Yahoo! bought All Seeing Eye, I guess they’ll be replacing their service?
XFire’s official response to the lawsuit is,
“Xfire does not infringe the Yahoo patent. We are very disappointed in the way this has been handled to date. We are hoping that this will be resolved shortly. We’d like to thank all 1 million Xfire users for their continued wonderful support.”
Personally I hope XFire wins this one.
