I’m pretty sure by now everyone knows that I’m a huge fan of Blizzard’s World of Warcraft MMORPG. If anything, my XFire profile should show that I love it. :p
Don’t get me wrong, even though I love the game, there are still several bugs in the game, some that go back as far as beta. Usually I don’t pay any attention to it as they hardly ever impact me. Well, yesterday one of Blizzard’s bugs did.
Back up for a moment…. anyone who play’s WoW knows about the “Valor Set”. For those of you new to the subject, it’s a high level armor set with bonuses geared for the warrior class. The pieces of the set drop in various high level dungeons (known as instances in WoW).
I’ve been level 60 for sometime now, and spent countless hours attempting to get my complete set. Though, it would appear as if my warrior, Hyglak, has nothing but bad luck. In my runs through Stratholme, Scholomance, and Upper Blackrock Spire I have never seen a piece of Valor drop. Getting tired of the grinding, I had pretty much given up on it and started playing my other characters.
Well, yesterday I got the urge to go hunt some of the valor gear. Broadcasted that I was looking for a group, and had a Scholo group almost instantly. Upon my invite I saw that there was another warrior so I immediately stated that I was after any valor that drops and no one posted an objection.
We get to the area where the first valor item drops, and the other warrior (I wish I could remember his name) states he wants the boots if they drop. I told him he wasn’t the only person after the item, but the raid leader says the other guy gets them if they drop. I bit my tongue and went with it. We kill the NPC, no valor boots, so the other warrior bails out. I laugh my ass off and the rest of the group is pissed, but we continue on.
We start making our way through, and the group goes to hell. We’re having deaths left and right, and then we get hit with a message saying the server will be restarted in 15 minutes. We decide that we’re going to try and make it to one more boss in the time left. This should have been an easy task. But no, our rogue decides he’s going to pull stuff while all of our casters are low on mana. I was all of letting the idiot die, but just couldn’t bring myself to it. Needless to say, we wiped and ran out of time.
After the server came back up, the group disbanded and I went back to Ironforge. I was about to log when some guildmates asked if I wanted to join their group in Scholo. So I ended up going back.
This 10 man group, which included three members of Mithril Twilight Order (the guild I’m in) was kicking ass. Probably one of the best groups I had seen in a long time. We cut our way though and nothing but junk is dropping (well, there were one or two decent items for the casters). Make it to the last boss and the Helm of Valor drops.
I’m ecstatic. The first piece of Valor I’ve seen drop in probably 100 instance runs. Since I’m the only warrior there the item should be mine. If only things were to be that good.
This is when my bad luck comes into play. The master looter says that it won’t allow him to give me the item. I’ve seen this happen before to other people, and I knew I was shit out of luck. I’d have to say thanks to the group, as they tried everything they could to give me that damn item. Changing loot type, making me the master looter, making me the raid leader, even having me leave and rejoin the raid. It was hopeless.
The item ended up going to Dagda, a fellow guild mate. He submitted a ticket to a GM to see if there was anything that could be done. As I’m sure anyone would, I did the same. I couldn’t have provided any more detail in my ticket that what I sent in.
So this morning before heading to work, I check my email. Hey I have a response from Blizzard, and it was exactly what I expected to see, “We are sorry for the inconvenience, but we cannot do anything to help.”
I thought for a moment, well maybe this person couldn’t do anything because another GM already transferred the item. Possible but not probable.
I logged into WoW to check just in case. — Odd into itself since it is Tuesday and the servers are usually down for scheduled maintenance. — Of course, there was no helm of valor. For the first time, I had been screwed by Blizzard.
Anyway, I’d like to say thanks to the group. I wish I could remember the names of everyone there. You tried, and that’s what really mattered. The guild mates that were there make me glad I’m a member, especially Dadga. Thanks for your help as well.
Oh well. There is always next time. Even if next time is 100 more times. :p
