I just cannot believe how big this story has gotten about a prisoner escape in a small town here in Tennessee.
Kingston, TN, the town I got married in a little over a year ago, is the setting for one of Tennessee’s biggest news stories this year. Yesterday morning, George Hyatte was being loaded into a van to be taken back to Brushy Mountain State Penitentiary. His wife who apparently was waiting in a Ford Explorer outside the courthouse jumped out of the SUV and opened fire on the three officers that were escorting Hyatte and another prisoner. One of the guards was hit, and later died, and Hyatte, the other prisoner, and Hyatte’s wife fled.
Now, I’d expect a story like this to make it to the local news. But I would have never expected it to make it to the national or even international news level. Is it just a slow news day yesterday or what?

Oh, and we cannot forget the local news…
Now, I’m not a heartless bastard. I’ll admit that the death of an officer in the line of duty is sad, but does this really warrant news broadcast in places half way around the world that have most likely never heard of Roane County?
