I Get Hate Mail

Over the past several years, I’ve managed to rack up my fair share of hate mail and nasty grams sent by my adoring fans. Most of the time it is from some kid, who through his own actions and blatant disregard for the rules and posting guidelines at OCC, that ended up getting himself banned from the forums.

Personally, I get a kick out of the creativity that some of these people put into their letters to me. Though the best ones were usually from people that I didn’t ban. :) Yeah, since I was probably the most active and visual staff member at OverclockersClub.com, I ended up taking most of the blame for bans. No biggie. :P

Now that I’m no longer a staff member, I’m still getting hate mail… well, hate posts. Granted, I’m not in a place I can access my personal email right now. So there may be some waiting for me when I get home. :P

You see, I was removed from the “staff” group, however I was left as a moderator. Rest assured, this was not by my request. I would have much enjoyed to be just a normal member…. buuut since I still have the power, why not use it in a time of need? That’s just what I did this morning.

Like I said before, I was probably the most visible staff member at OCC. If there was an issue, it came to me. Even the issues I had no control over, people would come to me. Well, I guess old habits die hard for some people, as I got a number of complaints about what I consider the stupidest thread in OCC’s history. I tried for a number of days to let it slide, and hoped that one of OCC’s actual moderators would take care of the issue. Nothing happened, and so I took the situation into my own hands. I’m sure any good citizen (or member) would have done the same thing.

As some people would put it, I “WTF PWNED” the thread and sent two people on a little vacation. Mainly because I was tired of getting complaints about them. Had either one of them had any number of productive post, I probably wouldn’t have issued a 7 day ban. But since I couldn’t find anything redeeming, I went with my gut feeling. :) In the end, I didn’t think twice about it until I saw my own personal thread. Yes, a hate thread. :P

Here is what ex-member Zero! had to say to me. Sadly, he was banned and the thread deleted before I could have any fun with it.

I speak after having seen what d3bruts1d wrote to psychotic_god in the psychic count thread. I thought the 3 word story was much more boring than that thread. You have the right to close it, and critisize it, but not to give psychotic a “vacation” for no reason. Psychotic has saved my life for real, so I don’t care If I get banned protecting him. Bring him back, he has done nothing to get banned, he created a thread that turned bad. Psychotic has made amazing contributions to the forums in the mere 2 months that he’s been here. Why don’t you ban people who deserve it! BRING BACK PSYCHOTIC!!!

Also, this thread is my act, don’t take my actions against anybody else!!!

Now OCC’s word filter had some slight modifications to the post. ;) The guy went on to bash other members, which is probably what resulted in the ban he received from another moderator.

Anyway… since I don’t want to junk up OCC with a useless thread, here is my reply to Mr. “Zero!”. I would have snet it to his PM, but sadly, he won’t be checking that ever again.

Mr. Zero!, thank you for taking the time to post on OCC, however the matter at hand is really none of your concern. It has always been an unwritten policy at OCC that staff/moderators do not discuss the reason any member was banned. However seeing that I am no longer a staff member of OCC (per my resignation several weeks ago), I’ve decided that I’ll continue this dialogue with you or anyone else.

First, let me point out that had you addressed this matter via a personal PM or IM, then you probably wouldn’t find yourself banned from OCC at this point in time. But being that you decided to post something in violation of the rules, who am I to argue with your ban?

Now. On to the matter of what I consider one of the worst topics in the history of OCC. The thread in question was useless, unproductive, unneeded, and unwanted. In fact, in the course of several days, I was contacted by a number of people complaining about the topic. I only decided to step in once the number of complaints exceeded my maximum annoyance limit.

As for the two members that were banned, I’m sure you’ll be happy to know that the ban was not permanent, though that was requested by a number of people. I would like to point out that the ban was not based solely on the closed topic. Well, ok, I will admit that Gir’s ban pretty much was, as almost every other post in that thread was his. To put it best, he was banned for spamming.

Now, psychotic_god was banned for more than just spamming in that thread. There have been a number of complaints against this member for other things, including spamming comments in the case gallery.

I’m sure that psychotic_god will be happy to know that his negative point balance in the OCC Store (more of a game for anyone who doesn’t know WTF that is) is now even further in the hole. :) How low can you go? I guess psychotic_god can answer that for us when he comes back.

And the last thing. I’m glad to know that he has “saved your life for real”, however that really has no bearing on what is going on here.

Regards,
Bryan K. McDaniel (aka d3bruts1d)
