New Firefox Extensions From Google

Maybe this is just a classic case of misdirection. You know, show active support for one web browser, while secretly planning to buy another one. :P

As posted on the Google Blog, Google has released two new plugins for the Firefox Web Browser.

The first one, Blogger Web Comments allows you to see what bloggers are saying about the page you are visiting. Of course, by bloggers, this means any site that is indexed in the Google Blog Search.

The second extension, Google Safe Browsing is an attempt to help identify phishing and spoofing sites.

You’ll find other Google developed extensions for Firefox here.

Google To Buy Opera Software?

Here is one for the rumor mill involving Opera Software and Google. :)

According to Pierre Chappaz, former president of Yahoo! Europe, Google is set to acquire Opera Software. Search Engine Watch has a bit more on the topic, and it is posted in English. :P

The funny thing is, I’ve posted on numerous occasions (1, 2) why I thought it would make sense for Google to buy Opera. Of course that was back when Opera still supported ads in the free version.

While the SEW article goes on to post that Google Maps was updated to support Opera, they failed to mention that a number of other Google services have slight issues with the Opera Browser. You can read more about those issues in the Opera Forums.

Opera Watch has stated that an unnamed Opera official has flat out denied this rumor.

Congratulations To The New OCC Staff Members

Well, it looks like LinuXProX finally saw my long, but honestly blunt, post about things that need to change around OCC. One of the things I pointed out is that OCC needed some new moderators to help clean up the crap in the forums. The people that were left tending to things after my resignation just couldn’t keep up with everything, and needed help. Well, they’ve finally got it. LinuXProX, in his first post in ages, announced three new moderators:

  • hardnrg
  • bigred
  • nerm
  • kobalt

Congrats to the four new moderators. They’ve got a hell of a lot of work to do.

Coming Soon — Part VI

Well, some of you have probably noticed that I’ve not been updating this site that often. It isn’t because there’s not much going on. In fact, there is a lot going on that I’d love to post about, however I’ve been preoccupied with other things lately.

Of course, this is the big holiday season. We just finished Thanksgiving a few weeks ago, and Christmas is almost upon us. After that it’s New Years as well as my wife’s birthday. So, that’s kept be a bit busy.

Then there is WoW. I’ve been playing a hell of a lot of it lately. Actually, I’ve been playing too damn much. For some reason I’ve kicked it into overdrive, and I’ve been leveling and playing the battlegrounds like crazy. I’m sure my guild’s merger into Shatter Scar Clan probably has something to do with that.

That’s not all I’ve been working on. I’ve really stepped up development on TechRelated.com, and things are coming along nicely. My goal right now is to have it ready to go in Q1 2006. If things keep up like they are going right now, it’ll be very early in the quarter. ;)

Right now, my plans are to bring TechRelated.com online to the world. The design, layout, and functions of the sight will be somewhat basic in the first version. I hope by version two or three to have some nifty little AJAX controls implemented as well as a more “modern” layout. A lot of that will depend on what the members actually want. :P

Also, I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who has messaged me about TechRelated.com. It is coming, and I hope to see you all there. :)
