Opera Basks in Mini Browser Market Push

eWeek has done a two page article on the Opera Web Browser. As you might guess from the title of the article, Opera Basks in Mini Browser Market Push, is mainly talking about the Opera Mobile and Opera Mini products.

Opera has worked a two-year deal with German companies T-Mobile and Debitel to have it’s mobile products pre-installed on all of their mobile devices. The companies will also help to promote Opera’s web application development platform to business customers. News of this helped raise Opera’s stock 20% on the Oslo Stock Exchange.

Google Finance (BETA)

Google has launched yet another new beta service today. Google Finance allows users to search for a “broad range of information about North American stocks, mutual funds and public and private companies along with charts, news and fundamental financial data.”

There isn’t much on the main page, but when you search for a stock symbol or other information, you can really see the power of this AJAX driven site. Here are some examples: GOOG, MSFT, YHOO, and RHAT.

This makes me wonder if a desktop application may be in the works to take on Microsoft Money and Quicken.

Joga

Nike and Google have teamed up to create Joga, a social networking site for soccer (English football) players. So, what is it exactly?

Joga is an online community created by Google and Nike for anyone anywhere in the world who shares a love for soccer, the world’s most popular sport. Joga is about getting to know your fellow fans; creating games and clubs; accessing athletes from Nike; and enjoying video clips and photos (you can even upload your own). You can strengthen existing friendships and begin new ones, join a wide variety of professional athletes and soccer communities, and even create your own to discuss soccer, exchange tips on the coolest moves, browse through various pitches worldwide, and plan your next game.

But most of all, Joga is about “Joga Bonito” — Portuguese for “play beautiful.” Are you ready to start down the path of soccer bliss? Join us, and show the world what playing beautiful means to you.

Enjoy (=

Sometimes I wish I was still playing soccer. :/ Or, at least still in shape to play soccer.

Find Long Lost Friends

Ever wondered what happened to the people you went to school with? Maybe a best friend, or an ex? Thanks to the power of the net, there are several places that could help you find someone that you haven’t seen.

I’m sure everyone has heard of MySpace by now. I had my own preconceived thoughts about the site long before I ever visited it, but then I stumbled across some good friends which I hadn’t seen since graduation (1999). It’s allowed us to catch up and keep in touch. Pretty cool, even if most of the sites there do suck.

MySpace isn’t the only way to find old friends. There are a slew of others out there which allow you search for classmates. The three I’ve used are Classmates.com, Reunion.com, and myYearbook.com.

So, quit wondering what happened to people, and start searching! :)

STOMP

If you’ve never been to see STOMP, I would highly encourage you to go. We went to see them perform last night at the Knoxville Civic Auditorium and Coliseum.

The show was so much more than I expected. I figured I’d go there, and they’d bang around on some trash cans and barrels for an hour or two, and that’d pretty much be it. I didn’t realize they blend a comedy routine into the show as well. It was absolutely hilarious, and I was in tears for a good portion of the show.

The performers last night were truly amazing, and extremely talented. Thanks for coming to Knoxville and putting on a hell of a show! I can’t wait to see STOMP again!
