Battlestar Galactica Spin-off Series / Prequel

Looks like SciFi will be doing a prequel / spin-off series based on the hit, Battlestar Galactica. The show, “Caprica”, will take place 50 years before the events of BSG, and focus on the lives of two families; the Adama’s which would be the parents of Admiral William Adama (current BSG commander) and another family the Graystones.

I’m not sure who the Graystones are suppose to be. Maybe the inventor of the first Cylon?

World of Warcraft Has Server Issues?

Anyone who plays World of Warcraft can tell you the game has some issues with its servers. It’s nothing new, as it has been a problem for the game since beta. Though, it did seem as if the game was slowly getting better there for a while (at least for some servers).

Even the low population RP-PvP server, Maelstrom, where I play has its share of issues.

Anyway, the crew at C|Net News apparently thought it was a big enough issue to post two separate articles about WoW’s server problems. You can find them here and here.

Google.com Advertising Firefox

It’s no secret that Google has a thing for Mozilla Firefox. Google has a number of Firefox plugins, is the default homepage for the browser, hired some of the FF developers, and even created special Firefox ads for AdSense.

Now Google has taken things a step further, and started promoting Firefox + Google Toolbar on its main website (if you visit using IE).

Linspire, Freespire

Linspire, Inc., which has a commercial Linux distro of the same name, has decided to release a free Linux distro, named Freespire. According to the Press Release, we’ll see the first beta of Freespire in August.

Kevin Carmony said the Freespire project has six major goals:

1) Provide users freedom of choice by making available a “free marketplace” for all Linux software, including proprietary, open source, free and commercial products, plus provide easy access to this marketplace with open sourced tools such as CNR and apt-get. When necessary for the user experience, include proprietary software as an option in the core distribution, which will always be available for download at no cost;
2) Offer a very easy-to-use, yet powerful, Linux distribution;
3) Provide exceptional “fit and finish” with a professional and polished operating system;
4) Create a Linux that can expand more broadly to the masses;
5) Create an active community of developers and users; and
6) Include worldwide language support. A more detailed discussion on the Freespire mission can be found at www.freespire.org/about/vision.

CNet's Coverage Of XFire Purchase

CNet News has a little blurb about XFire being bought by Viacom for $102 Million. The article sheds a (very) little more light on what MTV plans on doing with XFire.

I still think this whole thing sucks, but then again, I can’t blame the guys at XFire for selling… $102 Million is a hell of a lot of green.
