5,000

Wednesday, August 30th, 2006

Wow… things are starting to move pretty fast now. It was just a few short weeks ago when I posted that the TechRelated.com Forums had hit 3,000 posts. Well, yesterday afternoon the forums hit the 5,000 posts mark. Considering how small TechRelated.com currently is, I think that’s a pretty major accomplishment.

Thanks to all of the members that support TechRelated.com and are helping shape it into an excellent community. This wouldn’t be possible without any of you!

TechRelated.com Forums Moving Along

Monday, August 28th, 2006

Just wanted to post an update seeing as I haven’t done so in quite some time. The TechRelated.com Forums are moving along. I’m pretty satisfied with where they are so far… if you take a look at them, you’ll probably notice that they look quite different than most other forums that are powered by Invision Power Boards.

I’ve taken a lot of time to modify the forums, so that they are fast, easy to use, and yet still provide me with the flexibility that will be needed to expand in the future. How will he current theme port to the next version of IPB? Well, we’ll find out when ever it is released. :)

A big thanks right now to TechRelated.com member “lego” who created a number of images that are being used in the current TechRelated.com Forum theme. With his help, the forums took a big leap forward.

If you haven’t registered yet, I’d highly encourage you to. It’s free, and there are a lot of interesting things going on… and if that wasn’t enough of a reason, we also running a referral contest where you can earn prizes just for getting other people to register and post (see official contest information).

Howard Introduces Himself At OverclockersClub.com

Tuesday, August 15th, 2006

Mr. Ha has formally announced himself as the new admin at OCC. Which, personally I think was a good move, rather than keeping it a secret from the members.

It would appear that Mr. Ha also reads this site. Or was at least told about my last post. In his intro, he stated that he does not have a seven year old daughter. Now, was he disputing the age or the sex? Either way, it was my mistake, as I should have looked at the Neoseeker profile more closely… the Neoseeker.com profile for “Redemption Jr” was listed as a female. Now, two things should have clued me in that this probably isn’t a female. First off, does anyone know a female with the name Jr.? Not me. Then there is the “real” name provided in the profile, Howie. So, ok… not a seven year old daughter… a seven year old son. Assuming the profile is truly related to him, and not just something someone created as a joke. :)

Not that any of that really matters. Best of luck Mr. Ha with OCC. It’s a handful… trust me. :)

2 + 2 = 4 || In Other Words, OCC Rumors Are True

Monday, August 14th, 2006

Several days ago, I posted a “rumor” about OCC bing sold. Well, while you probably will not see the information posted on OCC any time soon, I can assure you that it is true.

So, say hello to OCC’s new owner… Mr. Howard Ha from Richmond, British Columbia, Canada. So, what’s with the 2 + 2 = 4 in the title? Simple math…

I’ve noticed for the last few days a new blue name (admin) on OCC… Redemption. The lack of response when I asked about it triggered the flag that something was up. Sure.. it could have been someone new to help LinuXProX and Bosco with the site. But then, why did Matt change the #1 user from LinuXProX back to Admin. Thing’s just didn’t add up… unless you looked at the whois record for OCC. It shows that OCC is now registered to Mr. Howard Ha, and not Matt Cameron (LinuXProX). Ah-ha! It adds up now. OCC has been sold, and Mr. Ha is the new owner.

So, what do we know about Mr. Ha? He likes Kill Bill and he use to write articles for Neoseeker.com. You can view Mr. Howard Ha/Redemtption’s user profile from Neoseeker here. It’s amazong what Google will turn up if you know how to ask it. :) My guess is he also has a 7 year old daughtor.

Lost Weekend

Monday, August 14th, 2006

Well this past weekend was probably the least productive weekend I have ever had. While I did get out a couple of times to run some errands, I was mainly glued to the TV for nearly 24 hours.

I’m sure everyone here knows, I’m a huge fan of Battlestar Galactica… and well, when someone told me about another series that was as well written and as complex as BSG, I just couldn’t believe it. In fact, from the previews, the show didn’t look that interesting at all.

It wasn’t until I posted on TechRelated.com about the show Lost, that I really became interested. A couple of members reiterated what I had always heard. It’s a good show. So, on Friday, I went to best buy and purchased Lost: Season 1. It was actually cheaper to buy the DVD set than rent it from Blockbuster. — Of course, I did have a $20.00 gift card for BestBuy. ;)

Then on Saturday afternoon it began… the wife, who really didn’t want to watch the show, and I began to watch the DVD set… episode after episode after episode… we watched Lost for almost 12 hours…. from 11am to 11pm with a few breaks and pauses in between, we were glued to Lost.

Then Sunday afternoon we continued our Lost marathon. We finished with the Season 1 finale last night at our usual bed time… so it worked out pretty well for us. lol

Now, we have to wait almost a month for Lost: Season 2 to come out on DVD… then a month after that Lost: Season 3 starts. I wasn’t interested in the show at first… but if Season 2 is as good as Season 1, I’ll be tuning in each week for Season 3.

If anyone reading this watches Lost… I’d love to know what you think about the show.

OCC Died But Not Dead

Thursday, August 10th, 2006

I had heard people were complaining about OCC being down yesterday, but I didn’t put much thought into it… mainly because my home IP is banned… well, I got to work this morning and happened to stop by OCC.

At first I thought I was seeing things. Every post on the OCC forums was from mid-January. There wasn’t anything posted on the forums about it… so after I posted a thread asking WTF was going on, I happened by the front page and saw an item stating that OCC had experienced a HDD crash, recovery efforts were unsuccessful, and that a hell of a lot of data was lost.

That has to be a catastrophic blow to OCC… seven months worth of member accounts, forum posts, and news items. That’s a lot of information that is just completely gone.

I wonder how the members will take it.

1,000 to 3,000 In Under A Month

Thursday, August 10th, 2006

It seamed like only yesterday when the TechRelated.com Forums reached its first thousand posts. It’s hard to believe than in 25 days TechRelated.com Forums has gone from 1,000 to 3,000 total posts. Not bad considering we only have 46 registered members. :)

[RUMOR] OverclockersClub.com Ownership To Change

Monday, August 7th, 2006

It’s kind of funny… when I use to help run OverclockersClub.com, I’d get messages from people asking about buying the site. I’d laugh, and pass the message on to Matt (aka LinuXProX). Matt would laugh, and say he got those messages all the time, and then say OCC meant to much to him, and that he’d never sell it for any amount of money.

I use to believe that… I wonder if he’d still say that today.

Truth is, since I stepped down from my position at OCC to begin work on my own site, I haven’t heard from Matt. Well, that’s not entirely true… much of the reason I quit, was because of the lack of communication from Matt. He was always busy with something, yet no one knew what, and it was pretty clear that the something was not OCC.

Matt later brought Dave (Bosco) in to help run the site in my absence, which is kind of funny considering I had originally taken over for Dave when he left. :p As Matt was less and less active, he gave Dave a “site manager” position which basically made him the assistant admin. This was probably one of the better things to happen to OCC in a long time.

Well here it is almost a year after all that took place. Dave is doing a fine job with OCC, all things considered… and Matt, well, not much has changed there from what I’m told.

Now, here is where the rumor starts. And I’d like to stress that this is just a rumor.

I’ve been told by two different people (friend of a brother of a friend of someone who heard something kind of thing) that some big news is about to hit OCC. It is being sold. To whom or what, I do not know. Like I said, this is just a rumor.

The logical choice, would be to sell OCC to Dave…. assuming that Matt still cares about OCC as much as he use to. Then again, if he just wanted to cash out, he could sell it to some network like IGN/GameSpy or maybe even the Warcry Network (Matt had a thing with someone there).

So, that’s the rumor… it may very well turn out to be false information.

Dave… feel free to comment, or shoot me a message. I know you’re still reading this site. :)

TechRelated.com Counter-Strike: Source Server

Sunday, August 6th, 2006

After playing CS:S for the first time in ages the other day, I’m considering setting up a dedicated CS:S server. Considering this would be my first CS:S server, I’m looking to solicit feedback from anyone that would be interested in playing.

Information on the server can be found here.
