What's Going On With TechRelated.com?

Yes, I’m still working hard on TechRelated.com. There hasn’t been much going on that’s visible to users, but I’ve been implementing and testing a lot of stuff behind the scenes. And wouldn’t you know it, as soon as I was getting most of my work done, Invision Power gets ready to release a major update to Invision Power Boards. For those of you that don’t know, IPB is the main system behind TechRelated.com. It’s all good though, as the next version of IPB has a lot of really nice features coming with it, which I’m sure the members will find useful.

I’ve made some updates to the TechRelated.com main page… you no longer have to wait for the page to load each individual section. Everything should now be displayed as soon as you hit the page. Don’t worry, if you liked watching it load, you can still get that by using this URL: http://www.techrelated.com/main/?version=v1.

Other than that…

The TechRelated.com is moving up in the ranks. We’re currently ranked #1,729 and moving on up. If you’d like to help out with a good cause as well as show support for TechRelated.com, I’d like to invite you to join the TechRelated.com Folding@Home Team. Help us battle diseases.

Like music? Come on, who doesn’t. :P Check out what TechRelated.com members are in to by visiting our Last.fm Team. feel free to join, it’s free. :)

Listening to music, helping fight cancer and other diseases, you’d think we’d never have time for anything else, but we do! In fact, a number of our members are fond of their computer gaming. Check out what other members are playing by joining our Xfire Gaming Clan.

OverclockersClub.com Wallpapers

Kind of odd writing about OCC once again. lol I was going through some old files, and came across some old OverclockersClub.com desktop wallpapers that I had created but never uploaded with the rest of them. I decided to go ahead and upload them in case anyone wanted to look at or use them. These are not “new”, just new on the site. Since I am no longer working for OCC, don’t expect to see me create any new items related to that site. ;)

You’ll find all of my OCC themed wallpapers here. Hope you enjoy them.

Join The TechRelated.com Last.fm Group

The TechRelated.com Community continues to expand. Just a couple of weeks ago, I posted about the TechRelated.com Xfire Gaming Clan, which is a way for members to keep track of what games they are playing as well as what games other members of TechRelated.com are playing. It’s a nice new service provided by Xfire.

Well, looking for more ways to help improve the TechRelated.com community, I came across Last.fm. Last.fm basically does for music what Xfire does for gaming. You download their client, and it shows on its website (and your profile) what you are listening to. After a few days, it’ll recommend new music and artist to you, compile charts of what you listen to, and more. What’s even better, is there is a TechRelated.com Last.fm Group. :) You can see what other members are listening to, and once we get 15 members (we’re at 10 right now) it’ll compile charts for the entire group. Pretty nifty.

For those of you that like showing off, Last.fm will even generate images for you that can be posted on your website, blog, or even MySpace page… here’s an example:

So, what are you waiting for? Sign up with Last.fm (it’s free) and join the TechRelated.com Last.fm Group (also free)! :)

Join The TechRelated.com Xfire Gaming Clan

Back when I was helping out with OCC, I got the idea of creating an Xfire bot (or dummy user) that anyone could add to see other member’s via the friends-of-friends feature. When I started working on TechRelated.com I continued on with that idea by setting up a TechRelated.com Xfire Ring.

Well with today’s update of Xfire (v1.63), they’ve added a nice new feature called Guilds & Clans. This allows people to set up their own Clans & Guilds in Xfire that members can join. This is basically accomplishing what I had been doing, but in a much, much better way. :)

By joining a Xfire Clan or Guild, you have a new section added to the Xfire client that will display only people from that specific group. Pretty nifty. Currently you can only join a total of three, but I’m sure that’ll change in the future. ;) Hey, why not make one of your three clans the TechRelated.com Xfire Gaming Clan? We’d love to have ya! And while you are at it, feel free to join TechRelated.com if you haven’t already!
