Burrr! It’s cold outside. This is probably the coldest that I can remember it being in a long, long time. According to Intellicast it is currently 14°F outside with a wind chill making it fill like it is 7°F. I cannot remember the last time Knoxville was this frakking cold.

Wow, It's Cold Outside!
Wednesday, January 31st, 2007Grrrr….. Comcast.
Tuesday, January 23rd, 2007Well, so far Comcast isn’t off to a great start. I had an install scheduled yesterday between 1:00 PM and 5:00 PM to set up my Digital Cable, High Speed Internet, and Digital Voice (VoIP). So, silly me, I get there before 1:00 PM and wait… and wait… and wait.
Around 3:00 PM I get a call from someone at Comcast that tells me that the installer is on his way. Could have been good news, but she follows up by telling me that the installer had used his last Digital Box, and we’d have to schedule someone else to bring one back to me…. or I could go pick one up at the main office. No biggie I though. If he was out by 4:00 PM, I’d be able to get my other errands done and still swing by the Comcast office.
So the guy arrives, looks at a few jacks, and mumbles something about the wiring. Apparently the new house (20 year old hose that is) has what he called “old 45 wiring” which isn’t going to work to well. He tells me that they need to schedule someone to come back out and run all new wiring. Thankfully, they will be able to get someone out there this Saturday… again, between 1:00 PM and 5:00 PM. There goes that day.
Thankfully, I was able to talk the guy into at least turning on the TV. With a little reluctance, he does so, but not before saying “I don’t know how well the reception will be”. So, after he leaves, I hook up TiVo and the TV. Crystal clear. Don’t know what the guy was smoking, but it works, and works just fine. I’d bet that the internet would have worked as well had the guy at least tried to turn it on.
Oh well… at least I was able to watch Heroes last night, and schedule TiVo to records the episodes of Battlestar Galactica and The Dresden Files that I missed.
First Night @ The New House
Tuesday, January 23rd, 2007Last night we spent the night at our new house. It felt really good to sleep on a real mattress again, instead of the futon we had been sleeping on in our apartment!
So what if we didn’t really have a bed and the box spring/mattress was laying in the living room floor? It was still a whole lot more comfortable!
The New House
Monday, January 22nd, 2007Well, the wife and I spent the weekend fixing up the new house. We had a bit of help from my mother, her fiancée, and my mother-in-law who all lended a hand to help clean.
We cleaned the carpet, the cabinets, the oven and the fridge, the ceiling fans, the walls, and just about everything else. Heck, I even had to use my new Shop-Vac (thanks Steve!) to clean out the air vents and the fireplace. The place was absolutely nasty, and the fact that the previous owners smoked didn’t help things any.
I must have spent over $200 replacing light bulbs alone. Granted, I did use the energy saving fluorescents rather than the normal iridescent light bulbs. Every bulb that was in the house had this orange, sticky “gunk” on it, that I can only assume came from tar in the cigarettes.
We still need to replace the carpet and paint the walls (and ceilings), but at least it no longer smells like smoke. Though it does smell like Glade Air-freshener and Orange Glo!
What’s next on the to-do list? Well, move of course… but I also need to replace the outlets and switches in the house as well as the two garage doors. Oh, and I’m sure the wife will come up with a long list of other things that need attention.
Ahh… the joys of home ownership.
World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade has begun!
Tuesday, January 16th, 2007“It has begun!”
Well, it’s just after midnight. The first expansion for The World of Warcraft has officially been released. That’s right, The Burning Crusade is here. I’m sure many, many people will call in sick today (and probably for the rest of the week).
I’ll get my copy in a few hours when UPS gets here. To bad I’ll be at work. lol
Sooooo Hungry!
Tuesday, January 9th, 2007Ok… about this “Weight Watchers” program. It absolutely sucks! Who in their right mind came up with the idea of counting ‘points’? This is dumb.
I’m not “fat” even though I could stand to lose some weight. Most of it is from just not exercising (like I use to), sitting in front of a computer for 10 hours a day (work), and having a late snack. So, I’m going to try something else.
I’m not going to count points. To me that’s just stupid.
Instead, this is my simple plan:
1) Add more exercise to my daily routine
2) Watch what I eat
3) No late night snacks
4) Eat healthier
Weight Watchers
Monday, January 8th, 2007So, the wife and the rest of the family decided they’d do like everyone else does in the new year. They made a resolution to lose weight. – I could also stand to lose a few pounds. :/
They’ve decided to do the “Weight Watchers” program; with one exception… they aren’t doing “Weight Watchers”. Yes, you read that correctly. My wife found all the information needed online, and has come up with her own program without all the fees. We’ll see how this goes.
