Well, the wife and I spent the weekend fixing up the new house. We had a bit of help from my mother, her fiancée, and my mother-in-law who all lended a hand to help clean.
We cleaned the carpet, the cabinets, the oven and the fridge, the ceiling fans, the walls, and just about everything else. Heck, I even had to use my new Shop-Vac (thanks Steve!) to clean out the air vents and the fireplace. The place was absolutely nasty, and the fact that the previous owners smoked didn’t help things any.
I must have spent over $200 replacing light bulbs alone. Granted, I did use the energy saving fluorescents rather than the normal iridescent light bulbs. Every bulb that was in the house had this orange, sticky “gunk” on it, that I can only assume came from tar in the cigarettes.
We still need to replace the carpet and paint the walls (and ceilings), but at least it no longer smells like smoke. Though it does smell like Glade Air-freshener and Orange Glo!
What’s next on the to-do list? Well, move of course… but I also need to replace the outlets and switches in the house as well as the two garage doors. Oh, and I’m sure the wife will come up with a long list of other things that need attention.
Ahh… the joys of home ownership.
