Stargate Atlantis

I haven’t been a big fan of Atlantis, but I rather enjoyed tonights episode and season ender. While there wasn’t much to it, they set up a nice cliff hanger and tied several past stories together. SG-1 use to do that! I think it’s safe to say that they have certainly set the stage for a “game changer”, as many people would call it.

We’re lost in space… though, more like Star Trek Voyager meets Star Trek Deep Space 9 than Lost In Space. Ok, maybe nothing like either one of those at all. Who cares, right?

We now have Atlantis flying through an unknown system, with nothing around, no ability to dial out for help, and they are running out of power fast. Best thing about it all, is live or die, we won’t have to spend much time with Dr. Elizabeth Weir next season.

Obviously, they’ll figure something out and get in contact with Earth. After all, we have the Stargate legend, Samantha Carter (Amanda Tapping), joining the show… though, I hope they don’t do it too fast, let’s have some peril on Atlantis for a few episodes until they figure things out. Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy that Carter will be taking command, I just don’t want it to be one of those episodes where it takes 10 minutes to figure out what happened, and another 10 minutes to fix the issue.

Though hopefully there won’t be very many of those Carter-McKay love stories. I’ve had about all of those (and McKay) that I can stand. Can he be the one we kill off next?? Please?? I’d gladly let Ford and/or Michael come back (both?).

Oh, and I wanted to say congrats to Rachel Luttrell, who plays Teyla. Word is that she is expecting, and it is being written into the scripts for next season. Ronon you sly dog!

Stargate SG-1

Ok, is it just me or did Stargate SG-1 just fizzle out? I’m not just talking about this evenings lack luster series finale, the entire “Season 10″ completely sucked IMO. Had there been plans for a “Season 11″, the way this season went wouldn’t have made me eager to watch it.

Matter of fact, this season reminds me of the past season on Battlestar Galactica. You have a great show, that takes a turn for the worse and fires off downhill at warp speed. What in the blue hell where the writers, directors, cast, and everyone else thinking when they read the scripts for this season?

“Hey, it’s over…. who gives a frack about ratings, we’re not coming back anyway.”

But they are coming back, and hopefully when the direct to DVD movies hit the street, they will be something much, much better than this crap the SciFi Channel has fed us for the past several months.

They kept hyping the “Season 10″ DVD set, which brought a question. Why isn’t Vala Mal Doran (Claudia Black) on the front? She is a member of SG-1, and a fairly major role through this season.

World of Warcraft: Accounts Closed

Over the weekend, I made a decision that may come as a surprise to many of you. I canceled my World of Warcraft account, as well as the one belonging to my wife. Part of me was saddened by this, while another part has a since of relief about it. After all, we’ve been playing WoW since beta.

Truthfully, the accounts should have been long closed. My wife hasn’t been able to play for months, as she killed my HP laptop which she had been playing WoW on…. her PoS HP desktop is 5+ years old, and can barely handle Solitaire these days, much less WoW. Sure, she could used my PC… provided she could find time between work, house related stuff, and I wasn’t on it.

Me? Yes, I have had more important things that I should be doing than playing video games. But there was more to it than that. I don’t know if you would call it WoW burnout, or simply a failure on Blizzard’s part to keep the game interesting. After all, I haven’t played that much since before the release of The Burning Crusade expansion.

For the most part, I just haven’t had the desire to play. Gone is the difficulty in acquiring the high end PvP gear, that alone makes it far less useful. While I loved PvP, that’s not the main reason though. Having 2 level 60 characters (pre-TBC) as well as a number of toons in the 20-40 range, I am simply tired of the same old quests. Sure, with the new races that were added you have a new version of the old quests which are slightly different and will get you to level 15 or so. After that? It’s back to the same quest you’ve done 100 times before. What’s new? Oh sure, there are thousands of new quest for the 60+, but what about those of us who are tired of playing the same character for the past 2 years?

The game is more of a chore these days. And for what? To get to level 70? Then what? Sometimes we need to face reality, most World of Warcraft players will never see the inside of a “end game” raid dungeon. Much less see the last boss of such dungeons killed. What is the reward for these players? The ability to wait another year or so for 10+ more levels of questing/grinding where the reward will be more of the same?

I’m not sure if my account will ever be reopened. I have no desire to sit through the drudgery of leveling another character for no real result. My wife’s account, well that’s different…. she enjoys playing a rogue, and only a rogue… she’d be more than happy to level 15 characters all the same class. She’s just silly like that.

"To The Fans of Jericho" Ad From CBS

Just noticed a cool ad from CBS running on Google Adwords. In case you are running an adblocker, or if the ad isn’t there any more, I took a screen cap for your viewing pleasure. Assuming this is actually CBS sanctioned, it’s nice to see CBS responding to the fans in such a way.

Let’s hope they really beef up the ad machine when it comes to actually promoting Jericho this time around.

Highlander: The Search for Vengeance

Ozzy’s new CD wasn’t the only surprise Target had for me, nor was it the only thing I purchased that day.

While I was happy to see a new Ozzy CD, seeing a new Highlander title sitting on the shelf had be a bit worried. But like any fan, I couldn’t pass it up.

Highlander: The Search for Vengeance might as well be the anime version of Highlander II: The Quickening. This time around, we have yet another immortal MacLeod, by the name of Colin (Conner, Duncan, Quentin were the others).

Summary of the plot…. Colin’s wife is killed by another immortal, and he seeks revenge over the ages. Every battle between Colin and Marcus for the next ~2000 years is interrupted, usually with Colin losing (save his head). In the end there can be only one, and you can pretty much guess how the story goes. Aside from Colin and Marcus we see two other immortals, and the ghost of a Druidh who reminds me a lot of Merlin The Wizzard from Disney’s The Sword in the Stone. It’s a very basic, and very flat story. While the animation wasn’t bad, I’ve seen better.
