I don't know if one can knock the other off. Will Steam represent more than just the games they host? As it stands right now, I run Steam and Xfire concurrently. I just realized that my XP Pro install on this computer is only running Xfire and not Steam like my Vista install, so I'll have to fix that after I type this.
I'll join the community after I get Steam to load on this OS. Some time after that I'll post in the forums my take on Steam/Xfire.

Now that I've had the chance to look, is there a d3 group? (Yes, I was thinking of TR when I started typing this, but I had to ask anyway.)
I'm no longer a part of any team or group, so I'm not sure why I'm even wondering. Old habits I guess.
