Knight Rider

Wednesday, September 24th, 2008

Tonight is the season premier of the new Knight Rider. I enjoyed the movie they aired a while back, so it’ll be interesting to see how the show does. Looks like they’ve beefed up the car a bit more.

First Google Android Phone…. Meh.

Wednesday, September 24th, 2008

The first ever Google Android phone was unveiled by T-Mobile yesterday, yet no one really seams to care. Come on, this is Google we’re talking about, and a majority of the news sites and blogs only had the slightest mention of it.

I would have expected a product with the Google name on it to have been much more covered by the media. I mean, it is Google after all. When Apple released it’s 2nd iPhone, you couldn’t go anywhere without seeing multiple stories about the iPhone…. with the Google phone, unless you knew it was coming, you probably missed the big news all together.

It’s a shame really, as the Google powered phone offered by T-Mobile actually has some things that make it better than the iPhone. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not ditching my iPhone for an Android phone, but let’s take a look at what’s going on here. (more…)

Neowin 8,000,000 Posts Challenge

Wednesday, September 24th, 2008

Neowin.net turns 8 years old on October 1, 2008 and to celibate they are having a little challenge. If the Neowin forums can reach 8 million posts by 10/01/2008 then they will be selecting one active member and giving them a copy of Windows Vista Ultimate.

Ok, so it may not be the best price to win, but its sure better than buying the OS. ;)

What are the chances of hitting 8 million posts by then? Pretty good. 7 days left, they are already sitting at 7,984,042 total posts. All they need is 2,300 posts per day. Not a hard task if everyone helps out. When the contest was first announced (May 7th) they were sitting at 7,640,544 total posts which means they’ve been averiging 2,471.2 posts per day. See, we should be able to make it no problem!

Automattic Acquires IntenseDebate

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008

The IntenseDebate Blog brings news that they have been acquired by Automattic, the developers of WordPress. This is sure to be good news for WordPress users, and it’ll meen better intigration among their other services Akismet and Gravitar.

I acyually used IntenseDebate briefly here on d3bruts1d.com as I was experimenting betwen it and similar service DISQUS. I opted to go with DISQUS because it felt a bit more polished around the edges. However, I was promised a sneak peek at a new (beta) version of IntenseDebate that was being developed… so far, I have yet to see this new version.

Redesign Week

Saturday, September 20th, 2008

Looks like the last week (or whenever) was “redesign week”. Both Twitter and FriendFeed made major changes to their sites. Not eactly sure when either of these happened, considering I haven’t really used these services that much in the past.

While the Twitter redesign is nice, it’s still very uninviting. However the FriendFeed update kicks ass. In fact, I’ve probably spent more time on Friendfeed this past week then I’ve spent since I first created my account. Major props to them!

Nirvana

Saturday, September 20th, 2008

I’ve been using Plurk for a while now, and have rather enjoyed it. This evening, I reached a major milestone on the service called “Nirvana”. One achieves this status when their karma rises above 81.00.

Karma is a highly debated subject among Plurk users right now. Some feel that it hurts the service, while others (me included) think that it helps promote interaction, discourages spamming, and ads some fun to it. I must say, compared to Twitter, Pownce, Jaiku, and the number of other similar services, I’ve used Plurk far more often.

What does it take to obtain the highest level of karma? Not much really… in fact, I would have been at Nirvana a lot sooner had I not had a 2 week break a few months ago due to vacation and crappy (no) Comcast service. See my karma trend.

Right now, my stats on Plurk are:

  • Total Plurks: 727
  • Total replies: 2677
  • Friends invited: 6
  • Profile Views: 2495
  • Friends: 294
  • Fans: 67
  • Member since: June 2008

As you can see, while I’ve been fairly active, I’ve not really been that active. This brings to question, is Nirvana to easy to obtain? Ask anyone who has it, and I’m sure they’ll say it’s to hard to maintain.

Mac OS X 10.5.5 Released

Monday, September 15th, 2008

Apple has released released an update to OS X (Leopard). This updateincludes general operating system improvements that enhance the stability, compatibility, and security of your Mac.

This is kind of funny for me… I know I’ve not been using OSX very long, but it’s been pretty damn stable ever since I started using it. We’ll see how the update goes.

Plurk Update

Monday, September 8th, 2008

Sometime today a Plurk was updated and a “Responded Plurks” tab was added under the time line. Right now it looks like it only goes back to mid afternoon yesterday, which if I were to guess would be about the time they pushed the feature out to the server.

This is something a lot of us Plurkers have been waiting for. I’d expected to see a big increase in the number of plurks as people are now able to keep track of messages easier. Yet another thing that sets Plurk apart from the other services.
