Update On Amazon on TiVo

Just received a follow up email from the Amazon team. For those that don’t want to read the entire message, the gist of it is… it’s broke, we know it, they know it, no clue when it’ll be fixed, TiVo is working on it, and here is a refund.

Additional information is available after the jump.

Here is what the email I received had to say:

Greetings from Amazon.com.

I sincerely apologize for the problem you encountered with Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and Get Smart.

The TiVo has identified the root cause of the download issues we are seeing due to the software update on the Series 2 boxes.

The problem occurs when a marginal network connection triggers network errors in a specific order.  Instead of retrying normally, the DVR restarts the download from the beginning.  If there continue to be network errors, eventually (after 8 attempts) the download fails with a transfer error.

The TiVo engineering team is testing a new software version, and expect to release this new version targeting all Amazon users at first, and then all broadband users as well as new units.

Because we can’t solve the problem to your satisfaction at this time, I’ve issued a refund for $0.99 and $0.99. This refund should go through within the next 2 to 3 business days and will appear as a credit on your next credit card billing statement.

Amazon Video on Demand content is not returnable, but if you encounter errors that prevent you from enjoying your videos, we’re happy to make an exception and issue a refund.

We hope you’ll visit the Amazon Video on Demand store again in the future.

So there ya have it. Hopefully, TiVo will get a working update out soon. I’d hate to think I’d have to use the Comcast service for VoD for any length of time.
