Gridiron Burgers is still dead

Back at the end of April, I wrote that I was upset to see Gridiron Burgers had closed its doors. It was bitter sweet, as a Red Robbin had just opened up down the street from one of the former Gridiron locations. While Red Robin is good, it was my opinion that Gridiron had a superior burger.

I was thrilled when a guest by the name of ‘rockytop’ posted about Rockey Top Burger Shoppe opening in a former Gridiron location, offering a similar menu, with some of the same staff. My hopes were high, and finally after eating there yesterday afternoon, I have to say that I am extremely disappointed. Rocky Top Burger Shop doesn’t hold a candle to what Gridiron Burgers was.

While the burger was good and a bit larger, the onion rings, sauce, and everything else has changed. Sorry, but I don’t think I’ll be visiting again. To be honest, I’ll be really surprised if the place last more than a couple more months. R.I.P. Gridiron :(

  • The taste is purely a matter of opinion. I preferred the taste of Gridiron all around. I'm sorry, but I'm not alone with those feelings either. Those I have talked to about Rocky Top have shared similar thoughts, with the obvious exception of the two comments here. While Rocky Top's burgers are larger and juicier, the taste (in my opinion) wasn't any where near as good as Gridiron. The same could be said for the onion rings and sauce.

There atmosphere (as a customer) hasn't changed much. It's still a loud restaurant, with several TVs. And personally, I don't care about the atmosphere. I just want a good tasting burger and some onion rings.

I was upset when Gridiron closed, it sucks what happened to the employees and loyal customers. Right now, from what I've seen, heard, and experienced I do not expect the place to be around long. Hopefully for the sake of the employees I'm wrong. I prefer Gridiron over Red Robin, Red Robin over Rocky Top, and Rocky Top over 5 Guys.

Your taste must be slightly biased. After Gridiron, it is refreshing to see that the employees have recovered from being laid off with no more then 6 hours notice. The food is better. The employees are happier. The recipes are different, and improved. The burgers and turkey burgers are juicy, unlike your obnoxious Red Robin. The atmosphere and food are much improved from Gridiron.

I ate at Rocky op Burger Shoppe just yesterday and thought that the food was excellent!! It is not Gridiron but, it has it's own distinct taste. I enjoyed the food. Maybe you should try the Sausage on a bun or, green chili?
