Thirty

Farrah keeps harassing me to post about my birthday, but I keep forgetting to do it. It’s just one of those things that happens when you get old. :p

Yup, on July 8th I turned thirty. Not much more to say about it. lol My mother and brother came in from Nashville to visit over that weekend, and I grilled out on Saturday and ate way more food than any normal person should. It really wasn’t the ideal situation for someone that is limited to a ~2000 calorie diet while trying to loose weight.

But it was a special occasion, and I enjoyed having the family around, so it was all good. :)  Thanks for everyone who sent in birthday wishes on Twitter and Facebook!

Fixing Dreamweaver CS5 on OS X

Ever since I first started doing web work, I’ve had a love for Dreamweaver. While I can do everything I need to in Notepad, Notepad++, TextMate, or a similar application, I enjoy Dreamweaver.

Late last week, I purchased a copy of Dreamweaver CS5 using my student discount and saved about $250. Downloaded the app right from Adobe and got right to work a few hours later. Over the long weekend the wife was out of town, so I spent most of my day (and night) in front of my Mac writing code. Things were good.

Today, I get home from work early and go to fire up Dreamweaver. It looks like it starts up, and then nothing. I try a few things, and cannot get it to work. So I googled the issue, and came to this Adobe Support Article. I tried everything listed, sans the FileVault stuff since I’m not running FileVault, and nothing worked. Other users (admin or otherwise) could run Dreamweaver just fine. Hmmm.

So, I started reading through the comments and found a link to another site that referenced the issue. They have their own solution listed, and after trying it Dreamweaver worked. Big props to Devin Walker who posted the info. You made my day!

OCC Acquires Another Website, TalkAndroid

This actually happened early in June, but I’m just now getting around to posting about it here on my blog. Overclockers Club has acquired control of a new website: TalkAndroid.com. As you might expect from the website name they are dedicated to covering all things related to Google’s Android OS.

OCC is a community for PC enthusiast, likewise TalkAndroid is a place for Android enthusiast.

You can expect to see a lot of the same faces at TalkAndroid as you’ve seen at OCC. Dave (Bosco) is running it while Scott (sdy) assumes the role of Editor-In-Chief. Others from OCC that are helping out over there include Nerm, Geekspeek, and Silverfox. You may even see me around from time-to-time, though being a fan of another company’s products, I’m not sure how much of a contributor I’ll be.

In 2008 OCC acquired DIY Street which helped strengthen an already great community.

9 Weeks Down, The End Of My 3rd Class

It’s the weekend which is the end of another week of school, and with it should be the end of my 3rd class. We’ll see if it actually ends or if the instructor has anything special planned for us over the holiday weekend.

The Visual Studio 2008 class started 3 weeks ago, however we didn’t actually get our book until a week and a half into class. We’ve only covered three of the chapters, those he did has some “discussion questions” related to later chapters. Maybe we will get away with just reading the text and answering the questions rather than having to do any homework. Next up should be SQL, I believe.
