End of First Semester

I have officially finished my first semester of school.

Class ended for me today when I turned in the last of my assignments for Project Management. I also submitted two assignments for Website Design that I somehow overlooked months ago.

Finals? Yeah, I had one… It was a mock interview with the Director of Education and a review of my resume with the lady over Career Services. Pretty easy stuff so far.

The next semester will consist of XML Web Services, ASP.Net, and SQL Server. There is a math class in there as well, but I already have credit for it. I find it odd that they are moving us into ASP.Net next considering we haven’t had C# or VB.Net yet. Oh well…

At least I get about a week off of school before the next semester begins.

Announcing my latest project. I hope you’ll enjoy it.

I love OCC. I’ve poured who knows how much money and time into the place over the years. The place has built up a great community, an awesome staff, and continues to grow rapidly.

But ever since I was asked to come back to the site, I’ve been a bit… out of place. Over the years my technical areas have “evolved” and my experience has changed focus. I could once rattle off the different Intel and AMD processor models and their speeds, cache and other specs. Now, I’m lucky to remember what processor I have in my PC, much less the speed.

But I continue to help out with OCC, because like I said, I love the place. I leave the technical stuff to the guys that know more about it now, and stay pretty much behind the scenes doing adminly type stuff.

But lately, I’ve been working on a new project… Continue reading

Just a couple more weeks to go

Today should mark the end of our “SQL Database” class at school. Well technically this class should have been over with a week or so ago, but that’s alright.

Apparently the “SQL Database” class was originally a straight up MySQL class with a focus on doing all things related from the command line. A few semesters ago, this all changed and it became a PHP/MySQL class set on top of XAPM. I really don’t mind the PHP bit, considering that’s what I do for a living, but I would have liked more time with MySQL. I’ve gotten a bit rusty in it over the years as my database focus has been Oracle.

Wait, did I say I would have liked to spend more time with MySQL? Remember that part where I said we were running a few weeks behind schedule? Yeah, so my class never made it past the basic PHP sections and into the MySQL stuff. Oh well.

Next we start on Project Management with Microsoft Project 2007. It may actually lead to me getting my CompTIA Project+ certification, for whatever that is worth.

Classes for the semester end on August 17th with finals the 18th and 19th. Then it’s on to my second semester.
