Back To Basics

Monday, January 25th, 2010

As you can see, I’m back to the default WordPress theme right now. It sucks, and that is part of why I’m using it right now. You see, I’ve been unhappy with my old theme for a while now, and I’ve been wanting to get something new posted. Hopefully this will encourage me to get that done. Of course, before I do anything to my site I have to get the new forum skin finished for OverclockersClub.com, which I am more than a little late on wrapping up.

Whoops! Site updated.

So, I decided that I’d upgrade my WordPress install to v2.6.3. It’s actually something that I had been wanting to do for a while, but haven’t had the time. Finally got around to doing it, and messed up big time.

You see, this is the first time I’ve done my WP updates from my Mac. When doing them from Windows, you’d just upload the files, and it was done. Files that are there would be left alone, unless they needed to be over written. Not the case with the FTP upload from OSX. OSX decides to delete the existing folder, and replace it with exactly what you uploaded. This means my theme, plugins, and other settings went buh-bye.

Thankfully, I had a backup copy of my theme… the plugins, well that’s another story. :D However, I think I’ve managed to remember everything I used, and those have hopefully been reinstalled. Let me know if anything breaks, and I’ll see what I can do to fix it.

Changes To d3bruts1d.com

Yesterday I rolled out an updated theme (created by me) to the site. Overall, I’m pretty happy with the theme, though it took me a bit longer than I had hoped to finish. Strike that, because technically it’s not finished, there are still a couple minor things that I need to clean up…. like adding some kind of “logo”.

There has been far more customization in this theme than the previous d3theme. Before I had based my theme loosely on others in the Wordpress community, but this time I redid everything from scratch. Because this theme is intended solely for me, I’ve hard coded some things into the theme which should mean less database queries, which in turn should mean things run faster. We’ll see how it goes for a few days, I may need to tweak some things later.

I am still relying on a number of plug ins to do some stuff. Let’s face it, plug ins make life easier. ;) Among the plug ins I use are… (more…)

Back To Black

Sunday, January 13th, 2008

Back when I first started my own site, it was black, crimson, and silver. Over the years my site has evolved quite a bit, and along with it the colors have changed. The most dramatic change was back when I started using e107, I found a blue/silver theme that I really liked and stuck with that for a while. It looked nice, but it just wasn’t me and I’ve been wanting to get back to black for sometime now.

While it may not be as black as previous versions of my site, I’ve come up with a new theme that I think fits me pretty good. I just finished it up this morning, so there could still be a few bugs lingering around. If you come across anything that looks odd, or is just totally fraked up, please let me know. I’ll get to the bug squashing as soon as possible.

Hope you enjoy the new layout and the new features!
