e107 News Archive "Plugin"

Yes, a shameless plug for me… or rather something I created. But then again, what would you really expect on a personal website? :p

Several years ago, I was looking for a “News Archive” plugin for e107 (the CMS I use for this site). I wanted something simple that displayed news titles, and the date posted. Basically something that followed the KISS principle. e107 had an attempt at a news archive, but it wasn’t what I wanted.

So, I created my own, which you can see here. Very basic, and just the way I wanted it…. and apparently, just the way some other people wanted it too.

I’m always happy to see people using it, or asking how it was done. While I’ve not done much to upgrade it since the first versions, I’m still open to feedback and changes. Just let me know, and if it’s something I think I can do, I’ll give it a shot.

So, if you’re searching for a e107 News Archive “plugin”, you’ll find everything you need to know right here. Just keep in mind, this isn’t a real “plugin” in the way of all the other e107 plugins. You don’t install it, you copy the code into your own page and it “just works”.

If you have any feedback for me on the plugin, please post in the e107 forums.

Site Updated

I’ve updated the version of e107 that I’m running for the first time in…. well, let’s just say a very long time.

Because of the length of time between updates, and the number of updates applied, there may be some things that are not working correctly. — I’ve not found anything yet, but if you do, please reply here and let me know.

e107 News Archive "Plug In" Updated

It’s been a while since I stopped by the e107 forums. Upon my visit today, I noticed that my news archive “plug in” was still a pretty hot item. — For those of you that don’t know, e107 is a content management system (or CMS). It also happens to be the CMS used by d3bruts1d.com –

Based on feedback from a couple of other e107 users, I’ve created a couple new “versions” of my “plug in”. Yes, I am using the term versions and plug in very loosely.

My news archive system isn’t really a plug in as most e107 users would be experienced with. Rather it is just a file that you can drop into your e107 directory and it “just works”. Nothing to install, enable, set up, configure, or anything like that. How much easier could it get? :p

Information and discussions related to my news archive “plug in” for e107 is in this thread. Information for all three versions can be found in this post. :)

There may be a 4th “version” coming soon.

Can’t Keep Me Down

You may have noticed that d3bruts1d.com was extremely slow for the past two days. In fact, it was so slow that depending on your browser, d3bruts1d.com may not have even loaded.

With the help of my hosting provider, I was able to find and fix the script that was causing the problem. I’ve also put a fix into place to keep this problem from happening again.

The “downtime” also gave me a chance to upgrade to the latest version of e107.

d3bruts1d.com Updated — e107 v0.7.1

I’ve updated the CMS that powers d3bruts1d.com to the latest version. The update could have gone better, but I’ve finally gotten things under control (for the most part).

The new version allowed me to install some new things, and get rid of some of the junk I didn’t use. I’ve not had a chance to fully test everything, so let me know if you run into something that’s FUBARed.

The CMS for anyone interested, is e107. The latest version (0.7.1) was released on Jan 18.
