Week 2: Failure

Saturday, August 23rd, 2008

In case you missed my Friday plurk, I failed week two of the 100 push up challenge. I knew I was in trouble when I started, by arms were still aching from Wednesday’s workout. Unfortunately, it was my own fault.

You see, come Wednesday, I will feeling so good about my progress, I got a bit over confident. I hit the weights after my push ups, and did a number of arms exercises and basically did a “muscle burnout”. It probably wouldn’t have been that bad of a thing if I had done the weights on Friday, giving myself a few days until the next set.

So, now the question is, what do I do having failed a week? I certainly don’t want to give up, and I don’t feel like I should be following the “easier” routine. So, next week instead of progressing to the week three phase, I’ll redo week two. And this will be my standard practice. If I fail any part of the week’s routine, I’ll redo the week again until it has been successfully completed. Hopefully, that wont happen again.

100 Pushups Week 1 Completed

Sunday, August 17th, 2008

Friday night I completed the first week of the 100 Pushup Challange. It was late, I was tired from working 10 hours and driving two hours on top of that, but I still did it!

While I can already feel the difference, I still have a long way to go. Thankfully that was just the end of week one, and I still have 5 more to go.

One Hundred Pushups: The Start

Monday, August 11th, 2008

Last week I posted about the one hundred push ups challenge. As many of you know, I’ve been trying to shed a few pounds and get back into shape, so I decided that I would do this program.

On Friday after I got home from work, I did the initial test. Sadly, I wasn’t able to get out of “Rank 2″ before my arms gave out on me. I thought I was in beter shape (not great mind you) but this made it painfully clear to me just how far I had fallen.

Today (less than 30 min ago) I started the Week 1 program. I sit here typing this post now with aching arms. It burns now, and I know I’ll be sore tomorrow. But, that’s a good sign. Muscle burn means that they are working. I can already tell that this program is going to make a difference.

No pain, no gain. Right? Now it’s time for me to hit the treadmill.

100 Push Ups

Wednesday, August 6th, 2008

For some reason, I never really got into Twitter. Sure, I have an account, and once in a blue moon I’ll check it. Other than that, I don’t do much with it.

Yesterday happened to be one of those rare moments when I found myself on Twitter, and as luck would have it there was an interesting (to me anyway) post from Kevin Rose. He was re-posting about hundredpushups.com. I found this site interesting, it claims that anyone of any physical ability can follow their plan and in six weeks they should be able to do 100 push ups.

It’s no secret to many of my friends that back in school, I would have been easily able to pull off 100 push ups. Heck, I could have done 50 on my finger tips, or with claps in-between. Sadly, that was a long time ago, and now I’d be lucky to do 10 push ups. It’s also no secret that I’ve been trying to shed a few pounds and get back into shape. It’s been a slow process, but I’m doing good. I’ve dropped 13.5 pounds in 31 weeks, or roughly .5 pounds per week. Nothing fantastic, but I’ve kept it off, and that’s key.

So, I’ve decided that I would take the 100 push up challenge. Friday of this week will be my initial test, and the following Monday will start Week 1 of the program. If all goes according to plan by Monday, September 22 I should be able to do 100 consecutive push ups. Will it work? Who knows. What do I really have to lose by trying?
