I was reading through DarkUFO’s find815 section, and noticed something that looked very, very familiar. Searching for “Find815″ on Google Earth, a user found that billboard locations, and other related information was there. Sounds really, really cool at first.
Before you get your hopes up, this is not some unreleased part of the game or even an easter egg. Nope, this is the very same map that you can find right here. This is the “Find 815 Locations Map” that I created a few days ago. Though it looks like the Google Earth version may also include a merger or data from other LOST related maps.
Thanks to all the comments on DarkUFO’s blog saying how cool it is. Even if you didn’t know it was me, it still makes me happy to know people liked it.

I hope everyone had a great weekend, including April Fool’s Day. There weren’t any jokes played around our house, however the net was full of sites pulling pranks. Wikipedia has a list of the 2006 April Fool’s Day jokes and pranks.
Popular geek, and news site Slashdot went girlie for the day with it’s pink makeover and “OMG!!! Ponies” title. Oddly enough, the nUbuntu Linux Distro did a similar thing.
The Google Operating System Blog released information about the new Google Web Browser. The text based browser shown reminded me a lot of lynx. :p
Google, who has always fond of April 1st jokes, launched Google Romance and added visitors to Area 51 in Google Earth.

Google has been on a role updating stuff, and yesterday they touched on Google Earth and Google Local. — I still think Google Maps was a better name than Google Local.
Anyway, according to the Google Blog they added extensive 6-inch imagery for many parts of the U.K., updated the Google Local database to match the coverage in Google Earth, and added two more zoom levels in Google Local’s Satellite mode.

I’m sure by now, everyone has played with Google Maps and Google Earth, two of Google’s utilities that make use of the technology they received from their purchase of Keyhole Software a while back.
I’m sure it’s just a coincidence, but Google has launched Google Moon today, which also happens to be the anniversary of when Apollo 11 landed on the moon making Neal Armstrong the first man to walk on the moon.
Google shareholders could be heard saying, “that’s one small step for Google, one giant leap for GOOG stock.”
More information about Google Moon can be found in the FAQ (imagine that). I’d expect more detailed moon maps to come from the lunar hosting and research center soon.
Google Blog has the lift off story for this project.

Ok. I lied, I’m posting some more Google related news. :p Don’t blame me!
Google has released yet another new service, Google Earth (Beta). Google Earth is based off of the Keyhole software that Google picked up a while back. In fact, Keyhole.com now redirects you to the Google Earth webpage.
The Keyhole Software wasn’t free, even after Google picked it up, however with the new Google Earth there is a free version, a cheap version, and a godly expensive version.
And of course, this is some of the same technology that is behind Google Maps.
