Google Talk (Beta)

Google‘s newest service, Google Talk (Beta), is now available for download. Or you can connect to it via Gaim, Trillian, or another multi IM client as long as you have a Google/GMail account. At the moment, Trillian and GAIM are giving me errors when trying to connect.

As many people have speculated over the past months, Google Talk is a Jabber/XMPP based client that allows you talk (voice) and Instant Message your friends. Plans to support SIP are slated for a future release.

Google’s client itself, a 900KB download, is pretty simplistic if not a bit childish looking. I’m sure there will be plug-ins released for it in typical Google fashion. :P

Google Talk Now Online

A few people have figured out that you can connect up to Google’s new IM service, Google Talk, using GAIM. This won’t work in Trillian!

Details on how to do it are available here. I’m sure we’ll see more coming from Google people tomorrow. Stay tuned to Google’s web sites for more info.
