24: Seasons 1 – 3

Saturday, October 4th, 2008

So, in the last three weeks I’ve managed to watch the first three seasons of 24 in its entirety. And I’ll be starting the fourth season either later tonight or tomorrow. This is reminiscent of when I started my LOST addiction, watching entire seasons over a weekend.

I’ve got to hand it to the writing team so far, they’ve kept me coming back for more. I love how no one, and I mean no one is safe. Thankfully towards the end of season three, my least favorite character was killed off.

One of the things I’ve really enjoyed about 24 so far is a lot of familiar faces, and a lot of actors that I like and never realized were part of the 24 universe. Actors like Tobin Bell (Saw), Daniel Dae Kim (Lost), Lou Diamond Phillips (Young Guns, Route 666), Dennis Hopper (Apocalypse Now), Zachary Quinto (Heroes, Star Trek), James Dale (The Black Donnely’s). It’s also nice to know that Henry Ian Cusick (Lost) and Michael Shanks (Stargate, Burn Notice, Eureka) will be in seasons that I have yet to watch.

So, I’ll be starting season four soon… then I’ll still have to watch five and six. Then next month a 2 hour TV movie 24: Redemption which bridges the gap between season six and season seven. Will I be caught up by then? Who knows… that really depends on a lot of things. I’d certainly like to be, but in the end I guess it won’t kill me if I’m not. — On the other hand, the wife might kill me if I am. ;)

There is one question that remains… how many more bad days can Jack Bauer have? Several, I hope.

Christmas Again, So Soon?

Monday, December 17th, 2007

Well, we now have two of our Christmas’ out of the way. The wife and I opened our gifts tonight. Usually, I’d make her wait till a little closer to Christmas… and by a little closer to, I mean after. :p Now we just have Christmas at my grandfather’s house (mom, step-dad, brother, aunt, uncle, grandfather, and cousins), though that isn’t really for me as much as it is for him. Of course, getting to go and see him is more than enough for me. He’s the best! After Christmas there, then I get to have it with my mom (and brother, step-brother, and step-dad). But I’m still not done after that, sometime in the new year (probably July, lol) I’ll go see my dad and step-mom and have Christmas there.

So, what did I get?? Well, … (more…)

Writers Guild of America Strikes

Monday, November 5th, 2007

Not to be confused with the Film Actors Guild, the Writers Guild of America (WGA) has gone on strike. If you watch TV, this is bad for you, and you might even see the impact starting tonight. With the writers on strike, there won’t be anyone available to write new scripts; The direct impact of this is the live shows (such as The Late Show, The Late Late Show, etc.) which record every day.

Our favorite shows like Heroes, Chuck, LOST, and the others will be ok for a while. Most of these shows have several scripts written in advance. Though, if a show doesn’t have enough scripts to make it to the end of the season, or even a mid-season,  then you can see one of several things happen. 1) The show could just end; 2) The show could see “scab” writers brought in, and if this is the case stories, plots, and even the entire show could suffer.

TV Guide has a nice writeup on some of the major things that this could mean for some of our current favorites. One thing it mentions in another article is Heroes.  The Heroes crew has gone back and reshot the Dec. 3rd episode. This episode was meant to tie up the “Generations” story arc, however if the alternate ending is used, it will be able to serve as a season finale.

Sadly, the writers for “Reality TV” type shows aren’t apart of the WGA. This means that if the strike goes on too long, we’ll see a large influx of crap across every channel. Yes, I know you thought it couldn’t get any worse.

What Have I Been Watching?

Sunday, October 21st, 2007

There’s been a lot on TV as of late, and several things I’ve found myself watching. It’s not all good, but for some reason I continue to watch it. Why not, after all once I find a show that I really like (Black Donnellys, Jericho, The War at Home) it ends up on the chopping block.

So, here is what I’ve been watching so far, and my initial thoughts of the show:

Grrrr….. Comcast.

Tuesday, January 23rd, 2007

Well, so far Comcast isn’t off to a great start. I had an install scheduled yesterday between 1:00 PM and 5:00 PM to set up my Digital Cable, High Speed Internet, and Digital Voice (VoIP). So, silly me, I get there before 1:00 PM and wait… and wait… and wait.

Around 3:00 PM I get a call from someone at Comcast that tells me that the installer is on his way. Could have been good news, but she follows up by telling me that the installer had used his last Digital Box, and we’d have to schedule someone else to bring one back to me…. or I could go pick one up at the main office. No biggie I though. If he was out by 4:00 PM, I’d be able to get my other errands done and still swing by the Comcast office.

So the guy arrives, looks at a few jacks, and mumbles something about the wiring. Apparently the new house (20 year old hose that is) has what he called “old 45 wiring” which isn’t going to work to well. He tells me that they need to schedule someone to come back out and run all new wiring. Thankfully, they will be able to get someone out there this Saturday… again, between 1:00 PM and 5:00 PM. There goes that day.

Thankfully, I was able to talk the guy into at least turning on the TV. With a little reluctance, he does so, but not before saying “I don’t know how well the reception will be”. So, after he leaves, I hook up TiVo and the TV. Crystal clear. Don’t know what the guy was smoking, but it works, and works just fine. I’d bet that the internet would have worked as well had the guy at least tried to turn it on.

Oh well… at least I was able to watch Heroes last night, and schedule TiVo to records the episodes of Battlestar Galactica and The Dresden Files that I missed.
