iPad: The Apple Tablet Has Arrived

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

Today Apple officially announced the iPad, the Apple version of a tablet PC. It’s basically a giant iPod Touch and fits somewhere between the iPhone / iPod Touch and the MacBook. I’m happy to see the device finally become a reality, but there are some things I wasn’t happy about. Will I get one? I don’t know… I do think my wife would really like it, especially with the camera adapter to allow her to import photos to the device. She’s been wanting a computer of some type for a while now… I had considered a Netbook, but with as much as she uses her iPhone, I think she’d like this better. It’ll really depend on our hands on impression once the device actually shows up at the Apple Retail stores. (more…)

iPhone OS 3.0

Friday, March 20th, 2009

Last week Apple gave us a “sneak peak” to the next version of the Operating System that powers the iPhone and iPod Touch. If it’s as good as it sounds like it is going to be, it could eliminate the need for most people to jailbreak their devices. I’m certainly excited. (more…)

2008 Best App Awards

Saturday, January 3rd, 2009

I just saw this on TUAW, voting is now underway for the 2008 Best App Awards. Apparently nominations were done a while back and over 18,000 apps were submitted. Voting remains open until Janurary 6th, and the winners will be announced next week at the Mac World Expo.

There are a lot of really nice apps on the list, and a lot of apps that I have never heard about. Guess I should get busy trying some of the other apps. ;)

iTunes 8.0.2 & iPhone/iPod Touch 2.2 Updates

Friday, November 21st, 2008

Apple has released iTunes 8.0.2 which in addition to some fixes and enhancements brings along the iPhone and iPod Touch 2.2 update.

With the iPhone / iPod Touch (IPIPT?) 2.2 update comes with a number of enhancements to the Google Maps, including street view, walking locations, and the ability to share locations via email. Safari also gets the goofy update that changes the “search” icon next to the address bar to look more like a search box. Who cares?? Though the update does claim to improve stability and performance in Safari, now that’s what I want to hear!

For a complete list of what’s available in the 2.2 update, check out the Apple Support website.

What if Apple Created a Gaming Console?

Saturday, October 25th, 2008

Everyone refers to the Xbox 360, PS3, and to a lesser extent the Nintendo Wii as a “next gen” gaming console. Does that mean the next round of consoles (Xbox 3602, PS4, Wii2) will be third gen, or will they just be the new “next gen”? I know, who cares, right?

A while back Apple announced to investors that there would be a “product transition”. No one is really sure what this is, or when it would be. Some think it was the new iPod Nano, the change to the iPod Touch, or even the new MacBooks. Others think it may be some kind of NetBook or Apple Tablet. Still others think it could be a new networked type TV. And some people think we have yet to se it.

Well, what if Apple were to venture into the realm of console gaming systems… better yet, what if they already had, and you didn’t know it. Perhaps you already have an Apple console in your living room, office, or bedroom. It may not be as big of a stretch as you think. (more…)

What I Want From iTunes 8

Monday, September 1st, 2008

Today is the first of September, and if the Kevin Rose rumor is true, a major update to iTunes could be just over a week away. What could be in store for us with the next version of iTunes? That is a very good question, here are some of the things I would like to see. (more…)

Apple Rumors

Sunday, August 24th, 2008

According to AppleInsider and MacRumors, Kevin Rose claims to have knowledge of some updates that Apple will be sending out over the next month or so. Among the rumors are:

- A revamp of the entire iPod line.
- Small cosmetic changes to the iPod Touch, with the iPod nano getting a significant redesign.
- iPods to get a significant price cut.
- iPhone and iPod Touch 2.1 Software. Touch to get it first.
- iTunes 8.0

Other than the list of rumors there isn’t much to go on. Though there is a picture of the rumored iPod nano redesign. It’s actually a pretty slick design, and I like it much better than the current “fatty” design of the nanos.

Additionally, iTunes 8.0 is supose to be a “significant” redesign. What exactly that means is anyones guess. Hopefully it’ll include some better filtering of the Apple App Store and better control over Audio Book syncing. Just things I’d find nice. ;)

Rumor: Apple’s MacBook Touch

Thursday, July 24th, 2008

So the internet has been buzzing about Apple’s planned “product transition” that was mentioned during Apple’s 3rd Quarter Earnings Report. What could it be?

With the success of the of the iPhone and iPod Touch some people think Apple’s next product might be a MacBook Touch. Basically a tablet PC/Mac that operates similar to the iPhone, though with a full version of OSX.

While that sounds really freaking cool to me, I don’t think I’d want one. Don’t get me wrong, I love my iPhone and I’m saving up for a MacBook Pro (for work), but the idea of a tablet doesn’t really strike me as anything more than a novelty. I don’t know, maybe I’d feel different after actually seeing a real product.

To be honest, I’m hoping the ‘product transition’ is something else. Maybe we’ll see Apple enter a whole new arena. TV’s, GPS devices, home theater equipment, console gaming, or something else. The posibilities are endless.

iTunes 7.7, iPhone/iPod Touch 2.0, App Store Released

Friday, July 11th, 2008

Unless you have been living under a rock for the past few days, you’ve probably heard that Apple has released iTunes 7.7 bringing with it the much anticipated App Store as well as the 2.0 software update for the iPhone and iPod touch. This also happs to be the day that the iPhone 3G is released. Pretty big day for Apple.

I’m in the process of updating my phone right now. It’s take about 20 minutes so far, and looks like it has another 20 or so to go. It did warn that it’d take a while. Word of warning, some people are experiencing issue with the update turning their precious iPhone into an iBrick because they couldn’t connect to the App Store (down due to traffic). I was able to browse the App Store, so I figured things should be safe now… we’ll see.

Aside from all the new games and applications, my favorite thing with this update is the ability to sync Google Contacts from GMail to iTunes. This is one of the things I’ve hated not being able to do since pretty much all of my email travels through GMail.
