How Many Plurks Can A Plurk Plurk?

Monday, August 11th, 2008

There is no doubt that I’m a fan of Plurk. I use it far more than Twitter, Pownce, Jaiku, or even MySpace. It’s a great service, and I’ve met some really cool people on there. But this post isn about that kind of stuff…

Today one of my Plurk buddies posted a simple request. Can a single Plurk get more than 300 replies? Sure it can… and it did. Now the question is just how far can it go? 1000? Been there. 2000? Getting close. 3000? Maybe.

We’d really like to see just how far this can go. So feel free to jump into the thread and reply. If you don’t have an account, you can sign up for free right here.

What Have You Done?

Monday, August 11th, 2008

I’ve posted about this several times already, and I will continue to post about it.

SocialVibe

It’s a service that allows you to help raise money for your favorite charities and organizations. It’s simple, your sign up, select what cause you support (mine is the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network), and who you would like to sponsor you (I have UFC and Power Bar). After that, you get a banner to display on your site or MySpace/Facebook profile and that’s pretty much it. As people visit, the banner is seen and you earn “points”, for the points you earn money is donated from your sponsor to your charity.

It really is that simple. And better yet, you can support a number of great causes. What do you have to lose?

My Social Network Experience

Wednesday, June 25th, 2008

Social Networking… who would have ever thought it’d be as big as it is today. Everyone and their brother is in the game. And while I have an account on just about everyone of them, there are only a few that I log into on a regular basis.

Of course, I don’t count sites like Twitter, Plurk, or Pownce as a “Social Network”. Other people do, but I still consider these blogging services… or if you’d prefer micro-blog. Over the last few weeks, I’ve been thinking about a few services, and here are my thoughts…

Will Google or MySpace Buy Bebo?

Friday, February 8th, 2008

Rumor is that either Google or MySpace could be looking to buy social network Bebo. Word is the deal could be anywhere between $1 and $1.5 billion.

If MySpace were to buy Bebo, it could still be a win for Google as both MySpace and Bebo use Google’s OpenSocial platform. Bebo however also supports the competing Facebook platform. Chances are either way the Facebook support would get the axe.

Of course, if Google were to end up buying Bebo it could help strengthen Google’s Orkut and maybe help it to catch on more in the US. Of course, anywhere Google can stick it’s ads will be beneficial to the company.

Pownce Themes

Tuesday, November 13th, 2007

The Pownce crew has added a few new themes for user profiles. Nothing really spectacular as far as the themes go, however they have given pro users the ability to create semi-custom themes. Pownce Pro users can add their own background, as well as change some of the colors. So far they don’t plan on giving “MySpace type control” to the style sheets, which I’m sure most people can understand why.
