So the Mac World Expo is over with now, and if you haven’t heard yet there are a lot of people that were rather disapointed by the event. Why? Two main reasons, first there were a lot of rumors floating around as to what would be announced. People expected these rumors to be true, and when they weren’t, people felt let down. The other reason, is the event was pretty boring.
If you hadn’t heard, this is the last year that Apple is attending the Mac World Expo. In addition to that, there was also no Steve Jobs to present the keynote, instead it was handled by Senior V.P. Phil Schiller. I don’t know if it was just Phil, or if it was the products he was announcing today but the event was boring. He spent half an hour along talking about iPhoto 09. iPhoto might be nice, and there may be a lot of new things in it, but half an hour? Really?
So what was covered during the keynote? If you fell asleep, or just missed it, here is a recap: (more…)

It’s no secret to anyone that I recently switched to a Mac, and absolutely love it. While it does just about everything I could want it to do, I still had some issues with the way iTunes is set up… specifically sharing a single library among multiple users (i.e. me and the wife) or among multiple computers (gasp, a Windows system!).
The same holds true for iPhoto, and until I can get the issues worked out with that all of the family digital photos still remain on my Windows XP system under Google’s Picasa software. — Why isn’t this available for OS X yet??
Looks like my problems may be solved, if the latest Apple rumor is true. According to 9to5 Mac Apple may be working on a Apple Media Server similar to current offerings from HP.
Based on 9to5 Mac’s speculations, the device would essentially be an extension of the Time Capsule product line. Heck, if it allows centralized network storage of iTunes, photos, and movies I’d be happy. At that point, it really wouldn’t matter what else it offered for me.

Google has updated their mobile apps for the iPhone again. The first time wasn’t that bad of an update, and this time is even better. The new UI has a much cleaner and crisp appearance. Additionally you can customize what tabs are displayed (up to three). By default you have GMail, Google Calendar, Google Reader, and of course the main Google page. A more button will give you access to Google Docs, Picasa Web, Blogger, Google Notebook, GOOG-411, and Google Search SMS.
Also, I don’t know if i it’s just the Google stuff or if it is related the the 1.1.3 update, but the new sites are going much, much faster for me.

Not sure how I missed this one considering it’s about two of my favorite services, TiVo and Picasa. Anyway, here it is…
TiVo Series2 and Series3 users can now view their Picasa Web Albums and/or Photobucket images right from their TV. That’s right, no need to buy one of those fancy digital picture frames, just view all of your pictures from the comfort of your couch (or bed). For more information, check out the TiVo website or the Picasa Blog.

In what will hopefully be a long line of applications for the Linux world, Google has released a version of Google Desktop for Linux. While it lacks support for widgets/gadgets, it will index just about everything on your system. OOo docs, man pages, media files, and more.
Good, now I’ll be able to install the PHP documentation and search it rather than having to visit PHP.net every time!
Hopefully we’ll get an update to Picasa in the near future, as well as a Linux version of Google Talk. Yes, I know GTalk is just jabber… it’s the GMail integration that I like most.

I posted earlier talking about Google’s new service, Picasa Web Albums. Since the time I posted that, I’ve managed to get into the test and snag a few screenshots for you to view. You can see them over at TechRelated.com Forums.

It’s been a hot rumor on the net for the past few weeks, and now it has finally materialized. Google’s Picasa photo management software has opened up, for a limited number of people, Picasa Web Albums.
The service, if you can get in, will allow you to host about 1000 images for free. If you run out of room after that, there is the option to upgrade to 6GB of storage for a yearly fee of $25.00. Kind of makes me wonder if that is a direction that GMail will be headed.

Last week my wife discovered some of the tools and features that Google’s photo management application, Picasa, has to offer.
You’ll see exactly what I’m talking about over at her pink blog.

An article posted on DesktopLinux.com says that Linux users may finally be getting some of Google’s toys. The article only hints about Google Talk and Picasa, but I’m wondering when we’ll be seeing Google Desktop Search, and other apps ported over.
This also makes me wonder if Google really is creating the rumored Google Linux distribution. After all, it would be kind of silly to release a distro when your tools aren’t available for it.
