White PSP & Browser Update Coming Soon

Monday, July 25th, 2005

Sony has announced that the PlayStation Portable (which kicks ass) will be getting an update soon that will add a web browser as well as the ability to download video in the MPEG4 AVC format.

Apparently Sony will also be launching a portal site for the PSP called SoNet. Users will be able to download TV Shows, Movies, and more from the new services which is expected to come out about the time of the updated PSP firmware.

Sony has also stated that a white version of the PSP will be available soon. I wonder if they’ll be following the Nintendo path and releasing the PSP in a number of colors. I can just hear the wife now asking for a Pink PSP. :P

Lumines And Mercury

Monday, July 25th, 2005

For the most part, I’ve never been a big fan of most games on handheld devices. If I’m going to play a sports game, it’ll most likely be on a console not a handheld. I can live with RPG games on a handheld, but most of the time I’ll prefer those on a PC.

Puzzle games? Well, now that is a completely different story. ;) I think puzzle games are the best thing you could have on a handheld, especially a Sony PSP. Thursday, I decided I’d pick up Lumines. This game has been hyped a lot, so I thought I’d give it a try. While it is fun to play, I really don’t think this game lives up to all the hype that it has had.

Sunday, I picked up Mercury. Again, another puzzle game. This one, I had seen around, but not heard much hype about it. I’d have to say, IMO, this game blows Lumines away. It is extremely challenging and complex. A perfect way to waste hours upon hours of your life away. :p

Both games are good, but for anyone trying to decide which one to get, I’d go with Mercury.

Sony vs PSP Hackers

Wednesday, July 6th, 2005

I’m sure everyone knows that people have hacked the Sony PSP to allow people to play games and run other applications off of memory sticks.

Even the “security update” released in May has been hacked. Anyway, C|Net News seams to think this is something new. :p

There was one interesting quote in the article that said future PSP games will require that the PSP run updated firmware.

What Do I Want For My B-Day?

Wednesday, June 29th, 2005

Just a reference for my wife and family, since I know they’ll be asking me what I want. Hey, it’s my site, what would you expect? Tech and gaming related post? :p

That should be more than enough to keep even my overly impatient family members happy. :p

Opera Mobile Browser For Sony PSP?

Friday, May 20th, 2005

Shortly after the release of the Sony PSP, there were request in the Opera Community for a PSP version of the Opera Web Browser.

Earlier this morning was the first time anyone from Opera Software responded to that request. Haavard from Opera’s QA Services Department today asked, “How many PSP users would be interested in Opera on their PSP, though?

Well, there is only one way to find out. :) We’re asking any Opera user or PSP owner who would like to see a version of Opera for the Sony PSP to head on over to the Opera Community and let Haavard know that you’d like to have it.

The Opera Mobile Browser is already available for a number of smart phones and PDAs thanks to their own Small-Screen Rendering Technology.
