RIAA vs WoW: A Hoax?

Friday, July 29th, 2005

According to the World of Warcraft Warcray, it looks as if the whole RIAA vs WoW thing may have just been a hoax.

Even if that is a hoax, the RIAA has sued 765 more alleged illegal file sharers.

RIAA vs The World (of Warcraft)

I just submitted an article to Slashdot.org related to a topic I found in the WoW forums yesterday. I don’t know if it’ll be accepted or not, so here is a copy of what I sent in.

Looks like the RIAA is back in action picking on the little guys by sending a cease and desist notice to two sites that hosted player created “music” videos from World of Warcraft and other MMORPGs. Apparently, the RIAA is pissed off that the movies contained the illegal use of copyrighted material. What’s the point of attacking two small sites when much bigger targets like Fileplanet, Google, and XFire all have some of the same videos? As I stated here, I always thought the use of songs in the videos was beneficial, as it a lot of times drew an interest to the song being used.

Crap like this really ticks me off.
