Mashable iPhone App

Thursday, April 2nd, 2009

I love Mashable.com, it’s a fantastic site for social media related news and info. I find myself visiting several times each day, and have hoped for a while now that they would release an iPhone app or a iPhone friendly website. Sure, there is a mobile site you can access if you know about it but you aren’t automatically sent there if you have an iPhone.

I was thrilled to see the news yesterday that Mashable now had their own iPhone app. Sadly, I wish it had been a bad April Fool’s joke. The app blows. :( (more…)

Google Chrome Out Of Beta

Friday, December 12th, 2008

Google announced yesterday by way of the Official Google Blogthat the Google web browser, Chrome is now officially out of beta. Introduced only a few months ago, Google Chromehas had probably the shortest public beta period out of any Google product. Take Google’s GMail for example, it came online in March 2004 and is still in Beta.

Google Chrome is available for Windows XP & Windows Vista only (right now), which is a shame considering it is based on webkit, the same engine used by Apple’s Safari web browser. You’d think they’d be able to release a OS X version fairly easily. Hopefully that’s not to far off now that Google Chrome 1.0 is out.

Will this spice up the browser wars? How will Internet Explorer, Opera, and Firefox handle the Google browser? Things should get interesting as new versions of each are prepared.

iTunes 8.0.2 & iPhone/iPod Touch 2.2 Updates

Friday, November 21st, 2008

Apple has released iTunes 8.0.2 which in addition to some fixes and enhancements brings along the iPhone and iPod Touch 2.2 update.

With the iPhone / iPod Touch (IPIPT?) 2.2 update comes with a number of enhancements to the Google Maps, including street view, walking locations, and the ability to share locations via email. Safari also gets the goofy update that changes the “search” icon next to the address bar to look more like a search box. Who cares?? Though the update does claim to improve stability and performance in Safari, now that’s what I want to hear!

For a complete list of what’s available in the 2.2 update, check out the Apple Support website.

Will Opera Come To The iPhone?

Tuesday, January 15th, 2008

We already know that there is an iPhone SDK in the works, and Apple plans to have it available for developers next month. And there is a pretty good chance that we’ll see something about it this week, if not today during Steve Job’s MacWorld 2008 keynote.

My question is, once the SDK is available will we see an Opera browser on the iPhone? I’ve not had any problems surfing with my iPhone, aside from the occasional “safari could not open the page because the server stopped responding” error message. If my experience is already good, could it get better? (more…)

Apple Safari For Windows

Tuesday, June 12th, 2007

In case you haven’t heard, Apple has released a beta version of Safari 3 for Windows. That’s right, Apple has released their special browser for “that other OS”. Sounds like a bad idea to mix software like that… but then again, in this day in age, we have PCs running OSX. Why not Windows running Apple software?

If you look at the “Performance” chart, you might get the idea from looking at it that Safari is incredibly slow. Look again. The smaller number is better, not the bigger graph!

No, I’ve not tried it yet… and to be honest, I haven’t decided if I want to or not.
