24: Seasons 1 – 3

Saturday, October 4th, 2008

So, in the last three weeks I’ve managed to watch the first three seasons of 24 in its entirety. And I’ll be starting the fourth season either later tonight or tomorrow. This is reminiscent of when I started my LOST addiction, watching entire seasons over a weekend.

I’ve got to hand it to the writing team so far, they’ve kept me coming back for more. I love how no one, and I mean no one is safe. Thankfully towards the end of season three, my least favorite character was killed off.

One of the things I’ve really enjoyed about 24 so far is a lot of familiar faces, and a lot of actors that I like and never realized were part of the 24 universe. Actors like Tobin Bell (Saw), Daniel Dae Kim (Lost), Lou Diamond Phillips (Young Guns, Route 666), Dennis Hopper (Apocalypse Now), Zachary Quinto (Heroes, Star Trek), James Dale (The Black Donnely’s). It’s also nice to know that Henry Ian Cusick (Lost) and Michael Shanks (Stargate, Burn Notice, Eureka) will be in seasons that I have yet to watch.

So, I’ll be starting season four soon… then I’ll still have to watch five and six. Then next month a 2 hour TV movie 24: Redemption which bridges the gap between season six and season seven. Will I be caught up by then? Who knows… that really depends on a lot of things. I’d certainly like to be, but in the end I guess it won’t kill me if I’m not. — On the other hand, the wife might kill me if I am. ;)

There is one question that remains… how many more bad days can Jack Bauer have? Several, I hope.

Saw IV

Sunday, February 24th, 2008

If you can get past the extreme gore, the Saw movies so far have been fantastic. For those of you that cannot get past the gore, we’ll then you’ll end up missing the entire movie.

As with the other movies in the series, Saw IV picks back up right where the others left off, and continues to fill in the pieces of the puzzle (no pun intended). Saw IV brings in a few new faces, in addition to several that we’ve seen before. Tobin Bell reprises his role has Jigsaw, and he’s created some new traps for everyone to play with.

Bottom line is the Saw movies aren’t for everyone, but if you’ve enjoyed the others than you’ll like this one. I did.

Movies, movies, movies!

This weekend was a big movie weekend for me and the wife. I rented three movies Thursday, and then we ended up going out to a movie Saturday. So, what’d we see?

The Brothers Grimm – This movie was pretty good. There was a great scene that involved a fluffy white kitten. :) It wasn’t a traditional fantasy movie, but it wasn’t a sweet little fairy tail either.

Saw – When I first saw the previews for this movie, I didn’t think it’d be that good, and so I never went to the theater to see it. Since the movie came out on DVD I had heard nothing but good things about this movie, and so I ended up renting it. I must say, this was a very good movie. Somewhat along the lines of se7en. The only problem I had, is I knew that there was a sequil in the works with the same bad guy. That let me know that in the end the bad guy gets away. Didn’t totally ruin it, but it would have been more fun. [Buy: DVD | PSP]

Guess Who – To be honest, I cannot believe I actually watched this movie. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. Dumb. Boring. Stupid. What else can I say? [Buy: DVD | PSP]

Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous – This one actually wasn’t that bad. Several humorous moments throughout the movie. Definitely a “couples” movie. :P [Buy: DVD]

Still a lot of movies out that I want to see… The Cave, Red Eye, The Skeleton Key, Wedding Crashers, Four Brothers, The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Fantastic Four, The Island, The Longest Yard, and Mr. & Mrs. Smith. That’s just the movies that are currently playing. :( There are a lot more that I’ve missed, and will be coming out soon that I’d still like to see. The Transporter 2, for example, comes out Friday.

Then there are so many movies that have gone to DVD now, I don’t even remember some of the stuff I wanted to see. Suggestions anyone?

Maybe I can talk the wife into a double feature next weekend. :P
