D-War: Dragon Wars

For the most part, I’ve always thought that the SciFi Channel Saturday night original movies were absolutely the worst science fiction movies out there. This evening I watched what may be a step down from the SciFi Channel originals, and the sad part is, this movie even made a brief appearance on the big screen.

D-War, otherwise known as Dragon Wars is what happens when you take something that aspires to be a “C grade” (nope, not even a b grade!) monster movie and combine it with fight scenes that look like they were filmed for The Power Rangers. The movie is so cheap that the military vehicles, tanks, choppers, and even uniforms don’t have a distinguishing mark on them. No name tags, no insignias, not even a U.S. flag. I might have been able to overlook those details if the tanks didn’t spit out sparks every time they fired their main cannon.

It looks like the only way for the writers to get around the huge plot holes in the movie was to mix in bad acting with even worse special effects. By the time this one is over with, you’ll be ready to slit your wrists.

Stargate: Atlantis Returns Tonight

Tonight is the return of Stargate: Atlantis on SciFi. When we left off with episode 10 back on Dec. 7th, the Atlantis team with the help of their duplicate selves had just enabled a way for them to track all Replicator ships in the galaxy.

Anyone remember how many episodes we’re getting for SGA in season four? Is it a full 22 or 24 episodes, or was it a smaller 16 or 18?

Stargate Atlantis Fall Finale

It’s almost time for the Stargate: Atlantis “Fall Finale”. To be quite honest, I don’t know why I continue to watch this show. For the most part the stories are dull and boring. I was surprised when it lasted past season one, and now that it continues by itself after SG1 went off the air I’m even more surprised. What is it about this show, it just wont die.

Tin Man

Tonight is the premier of Tin Man on SciFi. This could be a very interesting miniseries, or it could wind up like most SciFi’s recent productions and turn out to be a steaming pile of crap. I’m not sure if we’ll watch it tonight or not, but we do have TiVo set up to record it.

I cannot wait until Todd McFarlane does his Oz rendition!

SciFi Tech Blog Becomes DVICE

The SciFi Channel’s Technology and Gadget Blog has been reborn. The site is now known as DVICE, and it looks like they are already posting even more that they had been. Personally I think DVICE rates up there with Engadget.

I wonder if this means we’ll see a similar make over for SciFi’s Entertainment News Blog, SciFi Wire.
