Sony PlayStation 3

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

I’ve had my Sony PlayStation 3 for a couple of weeks now. While I cannot say that I wish I had never gotten it, I can say that I am currently disappointed with this system.

It really doesn’t matter what message board or forum you visit, you’ll find people comparing the PS3 and the Xbox 360. And there will always be someone asking which is better. My response was always the same, “it depends on what you want it for.” (more…)

Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune

Tuesday, December 23rd, 2008

Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune was one of the first two game that I purchased last week after getting my Sony PlayStation 3. Yeah, if you missed it I know own a PS3. :D

Prior to my purchase, I hadn’t heard or read anything about the game… or just about any other PS3 game for that matter. But the package looked cool, and Sony was pushing it with a PS3 bundle, so I figured I’d give it a shot. I was actually quite pleased with the game which I finished earlier today.

It’s kind of a cross between Tomb Raider and Prince of Persia (what can I say, I like those types of games). You’ll spend a bit of time hanging from ledges, swinging from ropes, and jumping off of cliffs. And when you aren’t doing that, the rest of the time is spent dodging gun fire. I swear, by the time I finished, I thought I had taken on a small country.

Story wise the game may remind you a bit of National Treasure or Indiana Jones, though towards the end of the game it takes a swerve that resembles Return to Castle Wolfenstein more than anything. Definitely worth getting if you are looking for a good adventure game on the PS3. Yes, it is a PS3 exclusive.

Hello PlayStation 3

Tuesday, December 16th, 2008

Christmas has come early… Thanks to my mother-in-law, I know own a Sony PlayStation 3. And because a PS3 just wouldn’t be much use without some games, I also picked up Metal Gear Solid 4 and Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune.

No, I haven’t picked up any Blu-Ray movies yet. While I will probably start picking up things on the format now, I’m not in a rush at the moment, considering I don’t have an HDTV. Though, Christmas isn’t over with yet, so who knows what will happen. ;)

Right now the system is in the process of updating the system software. Which means, it’ll actually be tomorrow before I get a chance to actually play either of my games. Work sucks. :P

Feel free to add me on the PlayStation Network. As you might expect, my name will be “d3bruts1d”.

What if Apple Created a Gaming Console?

Saturday, October 25th, 2008

Everyone refers to the Xbox 360, PS3, and to a lesser extent the Nintendo Wii as a “next gen” gaming console. Does that mean the next round of consoles (Xbox 3602, PS4, Wii2) will be third gen, or will they just be the new “next gen”? I know, who cares, right?

A while back Apple announced to investors that there would be a “product transition”. No one is really sure what this is, or when it would be. Some think it was the new iPod Nano, the change to the iPod Touch, or even the new MacBooks. Others think it may be some kind of NetBook or Apple Tablet. Still others think it could be a new networked type TV. And some people think we have yet to se it.

Well, what if Apple were to venture into the realm of console gaming systems… better yet, what if they already had, and you didn’t know it. Perhaps you already have an Apple console in your living room, office, or bedroom. It may not be as big of a stretch as you think. (more…)

NBC Universal Stick With HD-DVD

Thursday, January 10th, 2008

NBC ’s Universal Studios has officially debunked rumors that it was dumping HD-DVD and moving to Sony’s Blu-Ray format. This is good news for the HD-DVD fans, earlier this week it was looking as if HD-DVD was dead and the HD format wars were over with.

Blu-Ray Triumpuent Over HD-DVD?

Sunday, January 6th, 2008

In case you haven’t heard, on Friday it was announced that Warner Bro would be releasing content exclusively on Blu-Ray. The next day New Line Cinemas (owned by AOL Time Warner) announced that they too would be going exclusively Blu. This is a major blow to the HD-DVD community.

While it’s bad news for HD-DVD fans and supporters, this could be a good thing for consumers. With two competing high definition disk formats (HD-DVD and Blu-Ray) things were a tad bit confusing for the average consumer. You’ll still be able to pick up WB and NLC movies on both formats until May, which is when WB’s contract ends with HD-DVD.

This pretty much only leaves Paramount and NBC Universal supporting the HD-DVD format.

Opera is embedded in the Symbian OS-based UIQ 3.0, the user interface platform of Sony Ericsson’s new smartphone which is the successor to the popular P900/P910. It will be the first phone released with the Opera-enhanced UIQ 3.0.With the Opera browser, Sony Ericsson P990 users can surf the full Internet from their devices. This version of Opera includes well-known features such as tabbed browsing, a password manager and URL auto-completion, made popular in Opera’s desktop browser. Advanced features such as Opera’s Small-Screen Rendering (SSR) technology, plus its speed and ability to access the full Internet, make Opera the ideal solution for browsing on the go.

“Opera 8 on Sony Ericsson’s P990 benefits not only end users with a fast and full-featured Internet experience, but operators as well,” says Jon von Tetzchner, CEO, Opera Software. “The browser is emerging as a major selling point for mobile phones today, and operators are seeing a significant increase in usage as more and more people are surfing the Web on their mobile devices. Playstation 3 Details

Tuesday, May 17th, 2005

Information has come out about Sony’s next generation console, the Playstation 3. Looks pretty nice to me, though I’m not crazy about having wireless/bluetooth controllers.

Anyway, there are a number of sites with the information as well as images, so I’ll just link you to Google News. You can pick your on article. :p

XBox 2 Has A Chance At Number 1

Tuesday, May 3rd, 2005

Or so says Bill Gates in this C|Net News article.

It’ll be interesting to see what happens with the XBox 2 and PlayStation 3. Personally, I think Sony has a lot more going for it. Microsoft has Halo, and… umm…. Halo. Are there really any other games or characters that stick out as “solely Microsoft”?

We’ll see. I’ll be watching MTV on May 12th (if I can remember it) to see what the XBox 2 is going to have. ;)
