Space, the final frontier… again.

Monday, May 11th, 2009

Yesterday before working in the yard (which was looooong over due BTW) and visiting the MIL for mother’s day, the wife and I went to see the 2009 reboot of Star Trek. I really enjoyed the movie, so I won’t ruin it for anyone by posting spoilers… besides, there are enough of those around the web for you to read if you really want to.

The movie offered enough to bring new people to the series, while keeping some of the old to please the trekkies. Famous lines like “I’m a doctor, not a …” and “I’m giving it all she’s got captain” find they way into the movie. I wasn’t too sure about the entire cast line up going into the movie, but after seeing it I feel like everyone filled their rolls very well. I’m looking forward to seeing more Star Trek movies with this crew.

I’m my no means a trekkie… I watched TOS and TNG but hated DS9, Voyager and Enterprise. Heck, I still have yet to see Star Trek: Nemesis which came out in 2002. Doh!

24: Seasons 1 – 3

Saturday, October 4th, 2008

So, in the last three weeks I’ve managed to watch the first three seasons of 24 in its entirety. And I’ll be starting the fourth season either later tonight or tomorrow. This is reminiscent of when I started my LOST addiction, watching entire seasons over a weekend.

I’ve got to hand it to the writing team so far, they’ve kept me coming back for more. I love how no one, and I mean no one is safe. Thankfully towards the end of season three, my least favorite character was killed off.

One of the things I’ve really enjoyed about 24 so far is a lot of familiar faces, and a lot of actors that I like and never realized were part of the 24 universe. Actors like Tobin Bell (Saw), Daniel Dae Kim (Lost), Lou Diamond Phillips (Young Guns, Route 666), Dennis Hopper (Apocalypse Now), Zachary Quinto (Heroes, Star Trek), James Dale (The Black Donnely’s). It’s also nice to know that Henry Ian Cusick (Lost) and Michael Shanks (Stargate, Burn Notice, Eureka) will be in seasons that I have yet to watch.

So, I’ll be starting season four soon… then I’ll still have to watch five and six. Then next month a 2 hour TV movie 24: Redemption which bridges the gap between season six and season seven. Will I be caught up by then? Who knows… that really depends on a lot of things. I’d certainly like to be, but in the end I guess it won’t kill me if I’m not. — On the other hand, the wife might kill me if I am. ;)

There is one question that remains… how many more bad days can Jack Bauer have? Several, I hope.

Star Trek: Simon Pegg as Scotty, John Cho as Sulu

Monday, October 15th, 2007

Things are starting to look interesting for JJ Abrams’ Star Trek. Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead star Simon Pegg has been cast as Scotty and Harold and Kumar star John Cho has been cast as Sulu. Rumor also has it that the project has a $150+ million budget (more than twice as much as the biggest Trek movie to date).

Enterprise, Farscape, Firefly, The Stargates, and Battlestar

Friday, July 29th, 2005

One of the members at OCC started a topic talking about Stargate: SG-1.

So far, it looks like I’m the only person who is enjoying the new SG-1 team. Though, I think everyone is in agreement that Farscape sucked. :p

With such a discussion about Stargate:SG-1, it’s hard not to bring up Stargate: Atlantis, Battlestar Galactica, Star Trek, Farscape, Firefly, and many of the other similar SciFi series.

Hopefully, the discussion will stay alive (and on track) for a while. I’m interested in seeing what other members have to say about SG-1, Atlantis, and everything else. ;)

And of course, it is Friday. That means from 7:00PM till 11:00PM is SciFi Friday. Most importantly, it means a new episode of Battlestar Galactica. :p
