Janurary TV

I hadn’t really thought about this until today, but it looks like Janurary might be a good month for TV. Returning seasons, new seasons, finalies… there is a lot going on this month!

24 – I’m hooked on this show, and season seven which starts on the 11th will be the first season I’ll actually watch on TV. Yup, I’m late to the 24 club, but thanks to a friend (and Best Buy) I’m now caught up and eagerly awaiting the new season. There’s not enough time!!!

Battlestar Galactica – For a show that started out as the “best thing on TV” it sure went downhill fast. Part of that is because they broke 6-12 months between seasons, and part of it is because the show just lost it’s edge. It returns on Janurary 16th for not only the final episodes of season four, but also the final episodes of the series. Will we find out what happened to Earth? Who is the final Cylon? What happened when Starbuck “died”? At this point does anyone care anymore? It’s coming to an end, and hopefully it’ll end on an up swing.

House M.D. – Returning on the 19th is Dr. House and staff. This show is simply awesome, and I’m always eager for more House.

Fringe – The best way to describe this is to probably call it a modern day X-Files. It’s close, but certainly doesn’t do the show justice. It comes back on the 20th, and I cannot wait to see what Walter has to say in the new episodes. :D

LOST – The new season starts up on the 21st after a rather pathetic online game, “Dharma Wants You”. I love LOST, but lost intrest in that whole game very quikly… it simply didn’t hold up to the past games. Will we get any answers this season? Probably, but as always expect every answer to bring a dozen more questions. Will we find out more about the four toed statue? Doubt it.

Burn Notice – The 22nd is the return of Burn Notice. This show really took me buy surprise. I read about it on Neowin.net, and finally caught an episode of it. Prior to Neowin.net, I hadn’t heard or seen anything about it. It’s about a spy who has been blacklisted and dumped in Miami, and he’s trying to figure out who did it and why. Bruce Campbell is a co-star, which should be more than enough reason to watch it! :P

Stargate: Atlantis – I guess I should also note that Stargate: Atlantis finally dies on the 9th. I’m really surprised that the show lasted as long as it did, but it’s finally leaving. Oh sure, we’ll get a couple of direct to DVD movies out of the series, which will most certainly suck as much as the Stargate: SG-1 movies did.

Stargate

There was quite a bit of news concerning Stargate this week.

First, Stargate: Atlantis has been canceled. Personally, I think this is long overdue as I expected the show to die in the first season. But, it proved me wrong. However, while the show has been canceled, it is not finished with. The series/season will end with a cliffhanger, and next year a straight to SciFi Channel movie will be released (pdf).

While the Stargate: SG-1 movies have done well, I don’t think I’ve seen any fan reviews that actually thought they were spectacular. And those were straight-to-DVD. How will SGA do with a direct to TV movie?? Let’s just say that the SciFi Channel doesn’t have the best reviews when it comes to their original movies. Though, I’ll admit, every once in a while something good will come along (e.g. Battlestar’s Razer).

Additionally, the next Stargate series has been officially announced. Stargate: Universe – which we’ve all known for a while was coming – sounds like it will be something a bit more like Star Trek.

Stargate: Atlantis Returns Tonight

Tonight is the return of Stargate: Atlantis on SciFi. When we left off with episode 10 back on Dec. 7th, the Atlantis team with the help of their duplicate selves had just enabled a way for them to track all Replicator ships in the galaxy.

Anyone remember how many episodes we’re getting for SGA in season four? Is it a full 22 or 24 episodes, or was it a smaller 16 or 18?

SciFi Friday

I think tonight’s episode of Battlestar Galactica, 208 Final Cut, was probably the best episode of this season so far. Personally, I loved hearing the origional BSG theme song during the show. I wish it was played more often. Time to grab Ron Moore’s Podcasticon and see what he has to say about it.

Stargate: Atlantis was also pretty good, though I wish it hadn’t been one of those episodes where right at the last minute everything turns out to be ok. Personally, I think the writers/directors from SG:A could learn some stuff from BSG. But what do I know, eh? :p

I couldn’t really complain about Stargate: SG1. I enjoyed the hand-to-hand combat scenes. It actually reminded me a lot of Gladiator, only on a much smaller scale. ;) It was nice to see something other than the Ori (??) and the friars being the focal point. I’m already sick of them. They either need to do something, or go back to being hermits in a distant galaxy.

Can’t comment on Firefly, as I haven’t seen it yet. It’s TiVo’ed so I’ll watch it tomorrow. ;) Gotta love that little toy.
