One year with a Mac

Sunday, August 9th, 2009

It’s funny, I use to be a “PC Guy” and hated console gaming and Mac. Now if you asked me, I’d consider myself a “Mac Guy” and 99% of the gaming I do is on a console. My, how times have changed.

A year ago next month, will be when I purchased my first Mac. It was intended as an experiment, me and some friends had delusions of grandeur and planned on making some iPhone apps. That hasn’t happened, not to say it will never, as there are a couple of apps that I’d like to see, but I’m not there yet.

Over the past year, my Windows rig (Vista, C2D @ 2.53 GHz, 2 GB RAM, ATI HD 4870 512) has been neglected, only turned on to run Quicken when I’m balancing the checkbook. Even that came to an end as I found something that fills my needs on the Mac. So, what software do I use? What Mac software replaced my Windows software? Let’s take a look. (more…)

Trillian Astra Build 83

Sunday, July 20th, 2008

This is the build I’ve been waiting for. After quite sometime IRC has made it’s way back into Trillian Astra. I don’t remember when it was removed, but I’m willing to wager that I’ve not been in #TechRelated or #Neowin in at least 6 months. Probably more.

Aside from IRC, Trillian Astra Build 83 also includes an official Facebook plugin. The Facebook plugin allows you to read your news feed as well as update your status. Being that I don’t really use Facebook that much, I don’t know what else this plugin will really offer you. ;)

Other than that, you get some UI enhancements and bug fixes. For more information click the link.

Trillian Astra Build 82 Released

Wednesday, July 9th, 2008

Yesterday a new Trillian Astra build was released. This time around it’s mainly just a piss load of bug fixes, though they did muck with the ICQ / AIM plugin. Now if you use either of these services, you’ll need to enable the OSCAR plugin.

Trillian Astra Build 81

Wednesday, June 25th, 2008

Another pre-release build for Trillian Astra was released on Tuesday. Apparently they felt it was necessary to tell everyone that the emots are being renovated, “Hundreds have been completed and there are still hundreds to be added in the builds to follow!”

Aside from that, there were a number of entries in the changelog.

Trillian Astra Build 80

Saturday, June 21st, 2008

Trillian Astra Build 80 was released back on the 13th. The changelog claims to have over 100 entries, though most of what’s noted in the blog post relates to various Yahoo Messenger improvements. I just hope one of those 100 items means that it will no longer crash when I try to add a friend. That’s probably the most annoying thing ever. ;)

Trillian Astra Build 76 Released

Monday, March 31st, 2008

Another update for Trillian Astra was released earlier today. Build 76 addresses some (apparently major) issues that users were experiencing with the previous build. Auto-update should work this time around.

Trillian Astra Build 75 Released

Sunday, March 30th, 2008

Early Saturday morning the Trillian dev team released Trillian Astra Build 75 to testers. This is a pretty major upgrade requiring that the client and Astra servers be update simultaneously. Also, you will need to manually download the update.

So far this build feels really stable and polished. I like.

Trillian Astra Build 71 Released

Saturday, February 2nd, 2008

The Trillian team has released a new build. Build 71 is mainly a bugfix build, which looks to have fixed the Google Talk crash that a number of us were experiencing. There also reporting some work was done on the “add contact” panel as well as video calls. Looks like a pretty stable build so far.

Trillian Astra Build 70

Saturday, January 26th, 2008

Another week, another build. This week, build 70 brings over 100 bug fixes and also introduces MSN Voice Calls. As with the Yahoo voice calls that was added in build 68, you might experience some call lag.

I don’t know if anyone else experienced it or not, but that last build seamed like it had a heck of a memory leak in it.

Trillian Astra Build 69 Released

Friday, January 18th, 2008

Another week, another Trillian Astra build. Build 69… heh heh heh 69… is a basic bug fix build. Nothing new and exciting here.
