I’ve been in the IT world long enough to see some stupid stuff. A lot of really stupid stuff. I’ve done phone support, database administration, desktop support, and a bit of programming. IT really isn’t that hard, and some common since will go a long way. So now, I’m going to rant. (more…)

Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009Coming To An End
Tuesday, February 17th, 2009In the current state of the economy I feel fortunate to have a job, much less two jobs. – Though technically I have three, although the wife continues to argue that the 3rd one is just a hobby.
At any rate, I’ve been able to work my ass off for a while now. Using the 2nd income to pay off property tax, bills, buy a couple of nice things, but mainly to pay down the obscene amount of debt that has been accrued over the last few years. When I started the 2nd job, which is an hour drive one way, I knew it wasn’t going to be permanent. Heck, I’m surprised that I stayed there this long.
Last weekend I was notified that I should plan on that work coming to a stop by the end of April, and that for the next several weeks I should plan on training my replacement. While I’ll miss the money, I sure wont miss the 4 hours I spent traveling each weekend or the time away form my wife. Though I expect them to call me back within a few months after I’m gone. (more…)
Only Two Posts In April?
Saturday, May 3rd, 2008Wow, I have been seriously slacking. I only posted twice in the last month. Everyone must be thinking I’ve fallen off the end of the Earth or something.
Well, I am still alive. I’ve just been busy. Busy with what? Well work mainly. House work, yard work, work work, and getting back into shape work. Yes, I’ve been focusing hard on getting back into shape. I’ve been inactive for far to long, and I’ve finally gotten tired of it. In the last 4 weeks, I’ve managed to lose 9 pounds… though my goal isn’t exactly weight loss, that is a good sign that I’m doing something right. I feel better, look better, and have more energy.
I’m not alone in this either. My wife is also working on losing weight and getting back into shape. It’s a lot easier to do this when you’ve got someone helping keep you honest.
It’s The Weekend Again
Saturday, February 12th, 2005Well, it’s another Friday. Thankfully, this one wasn’t too bad.
Steve and I spent much of the day stuck on our office trying to figure out the logic behind the database structure for one of the main system used at the plant. Despite being told it operated one way, we’ve pretty well proven that it handles a bit differently in some situations.
It was a rather nice break through.
It gave us a much deeper understanding of how things happen and more specifically why they happen. This, of course will allow us to help the other customers and clients better when they request something.
Though, it would have been nice if the data dictionary that we have actually contained any useful information. Oh well.
Hey. It’s Friday, that means it’s SciFi Friday. :p New episodes of Stargate and most importantly Battlestar Galactica.
The End of an Era
Thursday, December 16th, 2004Well, it looks as if my time as the primary news poster for OverclockersClub.com may have come to an end. Recently, they have implemented a new web content filter at work that blocks out a lot of things, including the OCC Email system that I used to view submitted news items. Since I cannot post the daily news during the early AM anymore, I’ve told Matt that he might want to try and find someone else to help update this.
I’ll stick around and post news for other items, such as Opera and IM2 release information, gaming news and other items I come across during the day. Though Matt hasn’t said much about it, I’m sure he’d be happy to have someone around to help post news. If you’d be interested in posting news @ OCC, I’d suggest contacting Matt and letting him know.
Don’t worry.. the forums for some reason aren’t blocked by the new filter, so I’ll still be there day and night to kick people around. :p Yes, this means you.
On a related note, they’ve also blocked access to Blogger.com, which means I wont be able to blog until after work. Hmm… probably should be working during that time anyway, eh? :p
Playing with PHP
Friday, July 23rd, 2004Well, I’m finally getting some room to play with things at work now that Joe (my old boss) is out of the picture. An old “Hazard Screening Form” that I had originally created is in need of some work. I’ve managed to talk my new boss into letting me give it a try in PHP. First thing is to figure out how to get PHP installed on Oracle’s Apache Server… something they don’t support. :/
Work sucks….
Friday, May 28th, 2004Sometimes work sucks. Sometimes I’m an idiot. Put them together and it really sucks. FUBARed my time sheet, so my last check before the wedding is FUBAR. My fault though so I can’t blame anyone. Hopefully it’ll get fixed… **edit** Thankfully, they’ve fixed my check. Work doesn’t always suck.
No, this wasn’t an error with my job at OCC. This is with an actually company that I work for full time. A real day job. OCC takes up all other hours of my life.
Besides, aside from the products that I review (which usually are given away in contest), I don’t get anything from OCC. It’s a fun job, but not what everyone thinks it is.
